About the Book

How many of us can be true to ourselves and state that we solemnly undertake to look within themselves at least once in a day. That they ponder upon their acts and reflect on fundamental questions like who am I? where have I come from? Where will I go once I die? To be honest many times even I fail to do the same. It is when I pre-plan and prepare myself that I will take out time of my schedule and ponder upon my thoughts or will meditate, it is then that I get to look within myself. Now, for most of us, the title of the book itself would give a simple conclusion that the present book will help us reach the answer of who am I? However, I must say that like Shri Krishna, Acharya Mahapragya Ji has not given away the answer directly, but has surely lead us towards the path of finding the answers, as to Who Am I?

The book takes us across numerous topics like:
  1. Curiosity is a must for one to ensue the journey of finding the answer
  2. Understanding the Nature of a Jeev
  3. Why fear causes death?
  4. What are the levels of consciousness?
  5. Know the nameless within
  6. Where do we live? The correct answer is – in our Soul
  7. Where is consciousness?
  8. Why one should not live in the body?
  9. Who is poor? A different perspective to prosperity
  10. How to recognize the soul?
  11. Problem of kashaay
  12. Problem of pramaad
  13. Problem of fickleness
  14. The difference of You and Mine
  15. To reach the state of vacuum in meditation
  16. Effect of religion in the process

How to understand the Nature of Jeev?

The true of self of a being are never its features, never its body, never its personality. It is the consciousness which is enshrined within that very being. To get a deeper understanding of the nature of the consciousness, Acharya Mahapragya Ji, takes us across different ways to contemplate the same. The first one is Jaanati passati. This is also called the practical nature of the jeev. For every being, each and every incident, object, word, happening is perceived first by the sensory organs, which is then transferred to the mind and then the information reaches the layers of the consciousness. The way in which this information is perceived, is the practical nature of the consciousness- i.e. seeing and knowing.

The second is Icchati suham vibhedi dukkhado. It simply means the innate nature of a jeev to seek out pleasure and despise off pain. It is in fact logical too. Every person who prays, prays for a better future, a better health, a better well-being. Have we seen someone pray for pain and sufferings, for themselves. What is even more interesting to observe is that the fear of the pain, increases the suffering of the pain itself, making the jeev suffer twice more and sometimes suffer even before the actual pain had begin.

The third nature of the jeev is Kuvvadi hidamahidam vaa. These describes the nature of activities that the jeev indulges in. these activities can be beneficial for harmful. Since there is no hard and fast rule for determining whether an activity is beneficial or not, Acharya Mahapragya Ji has provided a simple analysis for the same which goes as, if a certain activity keeps us in a state of questioning and doubting as to why did we indulge in the same then the activity was not beneficial. But if after the activity, we are content and happy, we can be assured that it was a beneficial undertaking.

The fourth nature of the jeev is Bhunjaldi falam. It is the fundamental rule of as you sow, so shall you reap. A jeev suffers the consequences of its actions. Each action leads to its corresponding consequence. These 4 nature of the jeev, together constitute our entire practical life, and on creating an understanding of the same, we need to ponder on the fundamental question of what we were in the past and what will we become in the future. Bhagwan Mahavir had also encountered such questions in his life time and he helped the seekers of such questions by invoking the Jaati Smriti Gyaan (knowledge of the previous lives) and thereby discover the answer by themselves.

Finding the Nameless

We all have identified ourselves by our name, ever since our birth. When we say a name, the person with that name comes forward. But have we ever reflected on the fact that the person isn’t just a name but beyond it as well. Hidden behind the name, he is nameless as well. The soul is inside us. Name is merely outside, but inside is nameless. So is the consciousness, inside and no name can be given to it. It is nameless and formless.

When we associate ourselves with our physical form, we tend to limit ourselves to the material world, thereby limiting our knowledge. It is when we start associating ourselves with the formless, the soul we start unlocking those sources of knowledge which are endless and makes one experience endless revelation. Even if we have the sources of joy within ourselves, in order to experience the same it is necessary to first find it. It is when we start saying that I am bodiless even when I am residing within a body, I am formless even while staying in a form, I am nameless even when living in a world of names, when our lives will actually become peaceful.

I am Alone

I am alone, I will die alone, nothing here is mine- these aren’t sentences of discontentment, but are actually for the path bearers of spirituality. Spirituality is the awakening of the inner consciousness and realizing that nothing is mine. It is simply the act of stopping to harbor upon the concepts of me and mine.

If the consciousness of me and mine dominates, the man will never be able to think about the community, and the better of the society. Deeds like corruption and instincts like anger, fear, ego, treachery and greed will always be on the rise. It is with spirituality that we concur on the fact that the eternal truth is that I am alone, and thereby we stop hoarding and transcend ourselves from these instincts and arrive at the level of consciousness.

It is also true to say that the state of being happy, is the actual achievement of a being. It is also such a dire need of a human being that even rich industrialists and powerful politicians are devoid of it. A false ego is what keeps the man deluded in perpetuity. One might look at a man and think that he is travelling in a big car, has so many riches so he must be happy. However the truth might be that the person cannot even get sleep at night. It is an irony that neither those who have everything can sleep, nor those who have nothing can sleep. Only those who have undertaken the journey of spirituality, are truly happy.

Some extracts from the book

  1. On reflection upon the soul and truth, karma and liberation, it was discovered that devotion, knowledge or conduct cannot be considered absolute by themselves.
  2. Devotion and faith must be firm. If faith is not firm, we will forever remain in a state of flux. One day, we will recite lyrics in praise to a certain deity and the very next day, we will sing the praises of another.
  3. Knowledge advances only if the desire to know is strong and curiosity does not arise in the mind of any common person.
  4. People die of fear. They create artificial fear in their imaginations and get caught up in their own webs. Question arises who causes sorrow? A person creates his own sorrow and suffers its consequences as well.
  5. Who am I? Where have I come from? Where am I going? These three questions should arise in every human mind. Only those who constantly reflect on these questions and attempt to find the answers, can understand dharma in the true sense. Therefore, we should become curious about these three questions.
  6. Fickleness of the mind is the biggest problem, fickleness that prevents the mind from being able to concentrate.
  7. It is a bitter truth that it is already happening today. The number of highly educated unethical people is constantly on the rise. If a person is illiterate or less educated, his capacity for vice is also limited. However, people who are educated can device novel of ways engaging in immoral activities.
  8. Pramaad is also a problem. Because of this, a person does not know how to manage his time appropriately. Today is the era of time management. Management is utilized for everything but a person whose mind is imbued in pramaad, cannot manage his time.
  9. If we wish to get rid of the problems created by our own actions, we must separate the practical life from the inner world.

His writings bring about an all-round development in one’s life and thus are rendering a great service to the humanity. Mankind will forever be obliged to him for his contribution that he has made through his literature.

About the Book

In this World of billions, almost every person has one day or the other come across the practice of ‘meditation’ and asked himself that ‘why do I need to mediate?’. Some of us do find the correct answers however for the most of us the questions remains a mystery for we are so entwined in our daily routines that the practice of mediation seems to be a humongous task. But it was with this book that I had the realization that mediation is not just a 5-minute daily routine, it is a rather a way of living, a way of thinking, a way of reflecting, a way of talking, a way of perceiving not only the entire World but also our own selves.

This book, “Why Meditate?”, provides an insight to many topics related to meditation like:
  • Does mediation help in controlling of our mind?
  • How management of our senses helps in resolving the physical ailments of the body?
  • How does meditation help in concentration?
  • How our physical health is related to our emotional health?
  • How to purify our emotions?
  • How imagination is a root-cause of mental problems?
  • Understanding the concept of arta dhyan
  • The difference between good meditation and bad meditation
  • Why practice of kayotsarga is as important as the practice of meditation?
  • Understanding the practice of kayakalp
  • Can we change our inherent nature?
  • The practice of taking resolutions and how anupreksha helps in strengthening the same
  • How self-suggestions helps in overcoming of negative mindset?
  • Understanding the value of time
  • How to increase one’s efficiency in work?
  • The practice of self-realization

Meditation of the Mind

During our daily routines, how many times has it happened that we have actually emptied our mind for 5 minutes and thought of nothing. I can say this with assurance that not even a single time do we even think of doing this. We do take breaks during our work, but we simply start thinking about something else and the mind never stops. So in such a situation how does one expect to find relaxation and peace? The answer is well defined in the pages of this book.

Our mind is known for three functions, i.e. smriti (memory), kalpana (imagination), and chintan (thinking). All three functions can someway or the other be a cause of our suffering. It can either be the remembering of the past, creation of mind made scenarios or over analysis of any subject. The mind thereby never stops doing its functions. However, with wise and judicious use of these functions, one can ensure the peace of its mind.

Along with this, remaining empty is also quite necessary. To remain free of thought is an art, essential to be learned by most of us. It is a technique which teaches the mind restrain, thereby relieving it from imagination and memory. It is a very famous saying that if one wishes to differentiate between a wise and a crazy person, one must check who has control over his thoughts. The one who can control and even stop the compulsive flow of his thoughts is wise, while the one who clings to his thoughts is crazy.

Meditation through emotions

The topic that I found the most interesting in the book, was the pragmatic analysis of human emotions being linked to the physical signs of ailments in human body. Acharya Mahapragya Ji, through this book has presented before the us an interesting link between some common ailments observed in humans and how the personality of that person i.e. his emotional quotient has a resonance to the same. Like for example a person with anger issues usually exhibits heart ailments, a person who is mostly frightened by their nature may exhibit signs of kidney malfunctioning.

This unique co-relation established between the emotions of the mind and the health of the body, made me realize that somewhere or the other the physical ailments have a deep mental connection and how crucial it is for us to be in check of our mental health. This was also covered in the book that the solution provided was to be conscious of our emotions. Meditation in its most basic form is the purification of our emotions i.e. being in continuous awareness of what our mind is feeling at the moment and this once achieved would mean that the person has achieved the answer to a healthy body and a healthy mind.

Practice of auto-suggestion and Kayakalp

Whenever meditation is practiced, even by monks, the practice mandates that with mediation of an hour, it is to be followed by relaxation of 5 minutes. One cannot practice mediation continuously for the entire day and small breaks are necessary and this practice of relaxation is through kayotsarga and a meditation technique devised on the basis on kayotsarga, is kayakalp.

The book elaborates on the entire process of Kayakalp, which first starts by first relaxing the body and then going through different phases. What delighted me the most were the certain techniques used during these phases and the very first one was the technique of self-suggestion. During the process of kayakalp one constantly keeps on telling himself that he is becoming healthy, thereby supplying the much needed positive energy to the entire body. This practice of self-suggestion also made me reflect that how beneficial would it be if everyone of us started following the same during the entire day and whenever any hurdle would come, instead of thinking of the negative first, we would think of positives thoughts. I believe that with imbibing the practice of kayakalp in our daily routine it would eventually make people feel more positive, energized and high-spirited.

Conclusion

The book in all not only focuses on how to practice mediation, but with scientific connotations, provides a deeper understanding to the reader that how mediation interlinks the body, mind, senses, emotions and the soul, causing the reader to understand that how even the most basic of acts done by them in the day have an impact on their mind and eventually with mediation, they are able to finally give rest to their brains which until then had been working every second, let alone on something productive or not.

This would be my personal thought to state that I myself found this book quite enriching for it provided me a completely new perspective on the topic of mediation and made me realize that mediation is not just closing of eyes and taking deep breaths for 5 minutes a day but it is rather a constant process followed by the human mind each and every second of its consciousness, through its senses, emotions and body which eventually has an effect not only on the physical strength of the body and the mind but also make us come closer to our souls. The book very appropriately states that it is for those who wish to live in equanimity, self-assurance, spirituality and without tensions.

His writings bring about an all-round development in one’s life and thus are rendering a great service to the humanity. Mankind will forever be obliged to him for his contribution that he has made through his literature.

About the Book

Greatness is not a destination; it is continuous process that never ends. Acharya Mahapragyaji through this book conveys that each person has the potential to be great, but they may need to work to uncover that potential and develop their abilities. The book is a motivational tool to encourage individuals to strive towards their full potential and overcome any obstacles that may be holding them back. The idea is to inspire and empower people to become the best version of themselves and achieve their goals.

Success and greatness are related but distinct concepts. Success can be defined as the achievement of one’s goals or the attainment of prosperity and recognition. It is often measured by external factors such as wealth, status, and power. On the other hand, greatness is a more internal and subjective concept that refers to exceptional qualities or abilities, usually in a particular field or endeavour.

Acharya Mahapragyaji has through his books constantly laid emphasis on the importance of meditation. There are many different types of meditation, including mindfulness meditation, mantra meditation, and loving-kindness meditation. Through this book, Acharya Mahapragyaji has beautifully shown the relation of meditation along with success and as to how we as humans can achieve great things and can “Unveil our greatness.”

Some excerpts from the book to remember:

  • Anekanta makes an interesting observation: opposites coexist, like sun and shade, like creation and destruction.
  • There are 3 ways of experiencing: through knowledge, through seeing, through thinking.
  • When there is direct experience, thinking comes to an end and knowledge, in its wholeness, is born.
  • Thinking is an art. The person who knows how to think finds life smooth and easy.
  • To understand and accept different faces of the same person is to have holistic vision.
  • Just as we build and develop the intellect, we must nurture and shape a person’s character.
  • Nirvighna Chitta is the Chitta that leads to a state without obstacles.
  • If an idea can come to us, that means it can manifest in some way.
  • Compassion has been highlighted time and again as the most valued quality of humanity and humaneness.
  • True power of the self can be uncovered.

About the Author

Being a poet along with being a philosopher is a rare combination. Acharyashri Mahapragya is a great poet besides being a great philosopher. His writings bring about an all-round development in one’s life and thus are rendering a great service to the humanity. Mankind will forever be obliged to him for his contribution that he has made through his literature.

About the Book

Acharya Mahapragyaji through this book explained how non-violence and peace are interrelated with other aspects in life to be precise each aspect in life. Nonviolence and truth are two concepts that are often closely associated with one another. Nonviolence is a philosophy and strategy for social and political change that emphasizes peaceful means, such as protest, civil disobedience, and negotiation, over violent means. It is based on the belief that all human beings are deserving of dignity, respect, and protection, and that violence only begets more violence.

Acharya Mahapragyaji has also emphasized that, peace is also essential for the growth and development of the human body, individuals to engage in activities and relationships that support their physical, mental, and emotional health.

Acharya Mahapragyaji has also explained that, peace is important for the overall well-being of the human body and mind. When a person experiences peace and security, they are able to relax and reduce the levels of stress and anxiety in their body, which can improve their mental health and overall quality of life.

We all have at some point know the importance of peace but fail to implement the same as we are humans with lack of self-restraint and understanding, this book helps us to implement the principles of non – violence and peace.

In a general sense, together, nonviolence and truth can be seen as powerful tools for promoting social and political change, as they encourage individuals to address conflicts and injustices through peaceful and truthful means, rather than through violence and deception. By practicing nonviolence in our daily lives, we can model positive behaviour and encourage others to adopt a similar approach to conflict resolution. This can help to create a more peaceful and harmonious society, where individuals are able to interact with one another in a respectful and nonviolent manner.

Acharya Mahapragyaji has also explained how non – violence and peace can protect us and help us protect the things we value in a harmless way.

About the Book

Well, if the author of this Book is Acharya Mahapragya then the reader (if he had read his other books) shall be happy that something new and thoughts which will make you believe that it is not usual to understand Acharya Mahapragya thoughts which was no doubt is of rich calibre and far ahead of today times with far ahead of past knowledge. Not mind to say that “Past Perfect with Future Ahead” suits for Acharya Mahapragya.

The name of this Book is New Man New World and the first impression one get is there is something which defines this Book in better way. I have to admit that once I completed reading this Book in totality, this Book shall be part of curriculum and infact it fits the thoughts of recent Judgement passed by Hon’ble Kerala High Court Aaron S John Vs TKM College Of Engineering, Kollam and Others, WP(C) NO. 42412 OF 2022 datedm18.01.2023. The outcome of this book is many but me choosing that this Book puts the onus on us that “Teaching Character” is more important than other studies and infact such has been the preaching by Jain Agam that today the world is actually looking for the same. The Kerala High Court has stated very clearly in its judgement at para 24 “Lessons in good behaviour and etiquette must be part of the curriculum; and from at least the Primary Class level; teachers must be encouraged to instil virtues and values in students”.

This Book is one the best combination covering Spiritual Science, Management, Life and Control and actually gives the Road Map to your past and future. Knowing your past is as important as understanding the future as past does have influence on future. Once cannot ignore past as past is lessons and future shall be teachings for further ages to comes.

About the Author

Being a poet along with being a philosopher is a rare combination. Acharyashri Mahapragya is a great poet besides being a great philosopher. The literature written by Acharyashri Mahapragya is proving very effective like panacea in solving the horrible problems of the present age like tension, lack of sensitivity, excitement, depression, terrorism, inferiority complex, hatred, fraud, immorality, lack of authenticity and absence of peace. In the books of Acharya Mahapragya, solutions of various problems have been given by way of experiments and training. His writings bring about an all-round development in one’s life and thus are rendering a great service to the humanity. Mankind will forever be obliged to him for his contribution that he has made through his literature.

About the Book

We all are in the age where we use the internet efficiently and therefore, we all are aware that there are various motivational speakers, motivational pages including quotes, etc. One of the most common traits amongst all of this can be said to be that they ask you to believe in yourself. What exactly do they mean by believe in yourself? The one word I as a person would use to sum this up would be the word “MANIFEST.” In this book Acharya Mahapragyaji has beautifully explained thoroughly throughout the book the Power of Manifestation and how to manifest. Nowadays, people manifest but they do not necessarily manifest it in the right way leading to disappointment. This book has been elaborately explaining the meaning of the way our mind works wonders. Mind is a powerful tool that we need to use properly along with the manifestation. The author of this book Acharya Mahapragyaji has excellently portrayed through examples which are mentioned in the book as to how our mind works and how can we train it in the right direction.

Manifestation is somehow restricted to the field of getting motivated rather the direction of thinking or training our mind is in all the fields inclusive of our health. There are real life examples included in this book. We hear a lot of people saying “It is just psychological” but we do not pay heed to it and just ignore it. This book is composed in such a way to improve our lifestyle to make and convert us into a better human physically, mentally, spiritually by merely improving the way we think.

The title of the book in my view does absolute justice to the title of the book. The book has very clearly explained the problems along with the solutions to how we need to be positive and mind is an exceptionally powerful tool. One of the most famous thing that we all have heard is Don’t think negative. We often tend to ignore the things and forget that each has a scientific meaning behind it similarly this phrase shows that our manifestation and the way our mind works is very abstract.

Excerpts to Remember from this book

  1. One who constantly aspires and contemplates on the soul, gets established in the soul.
  2. Bhavana and it’s exercise = Manifestation and it’s power.
  3. Our illusion is reared in the cradle of belief. If we go into it deeply, we shall find that the whole word is locked up in the prison of belief.
  4. The sadhak should rightly observe the body and rooting out all the attachment, should get established in his own true nature.
  5. It is often said, ” Be alert: Be vigilant.”
  6. Bhavana of Influx:
    • Activism
    • Perversity
    • Non- abstinence
    • Remissness
    • Passions
  7. With the soul that is free, the material particle can never assimilate, because a free soul consists of nothing but pure awareness.
  8. We practice meditation. We worship religion. It means that we are creating a counter-conditioning to oppose the earlier conditioning of our minds.
  9. One who is only concerned with absolute independence, creates conflict.

About the Book

“Body and Soul” as authored by Acharya Mahapragya is a retelling of the dialogue between Kumarshraman Keshi and King Pardeshi, as recorded in the canonical text “Rayapaseniya”. An in brief outlook on the book is that the book is based on dialogue between a theist and an atheist, one is a believe of the soul and the other is a non-believer of the soul. Interesting is the fact that neither of the two try and force their respective belief on their counter-part. They actually indulge in a truthful, heartfelt, respectful and a non-biased conversation during which both share their respective views whole-heartedly.

If one wishes to know what questions shall they find answer to in this book, for them the answer is a one-liner,

“Is Soul different from Body?”

The book revolves around the transition journey of an atheist to a theist, with complete analysis of the related topics and subjects and of course how can I miss the tiny limericks which the writer, Acharya Mahapragya has added here and there, which makes the reader co-relate the topics to their day-to-day happenings.

In my personal view, the book actually reminded me of another classic, the Vikram-Vetal stories which I believe we grew up listening to. In a way the dialogue between King Pardeshi and Kumarshraman Keshi is pretty similar to the dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna, on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. The only difference is that where Arjuna is actually clueless about his perceptions and ideas, and seeks the answers of Lord Krishna to get a clearer vision of a hazy view of Dharma, on the other hand King Pardeshi is seeking to change the perspective of Kumarshraman Keshi through his questions. However it is the simple yet logical answers of Kumarshraman Keshi which made his change his outlook on the subject of Soul and made him a theist. Yet, there is one thing which is common in both scenarios, which is an honest seeking of the Truth, let it be by Arjuna through Lord Krishna or by King Pardeshi through Kumarshraman Keshi.

The Story

The book opens with an innocent and an honest courtesan named Chitta who was loyal to King Pardeshi, was concerned about the dealings of his beloved King Pardeshi. He was completely honest about his work and about his devotion towards King Pardeshi. Still, there was a part of him which was always in realisation of the bad deeds of King Pardeshi and he always wanted the King to mend his ways one day and start the life of peace and non-violence. King Pardeshi was famous for his cruelty and bloodshed and Chitta was on a lookout of a way to make the King shed his practices. That is when he met Kumarshraman Keshi and convinced him to visit his kingdom one day and teach King Pardeshi the path of non-violence.

In a way, Chitta reminded me of Karna of Mahabharata, who was similarly devoted to Duryodhana. However a striking difference between the two was that Karna chose to ignore the wrong doings of Duryodhana and support him no matter what whereas Chitta was adamant on finding a way to mend his Kings cruel ways and start his journey on the path of peace and non-violence.

The story progresses as Chitta smartly brings King Pardeshi to the royal gardens where Kumarshraman Keshi was staying. King Pardeshi was surprised to see a monk in his kingdom, for he thought what would be the work of monk in a kingdom of atheist. That is when Chitta played his role and convinced King Pardeshi that if the King was able to convert a monk into an atheist then this would be remarkable. Hence, started the effort of King Pardeshi to try and convince Kumarshraman Keshi that the body and the soul are one and the same thing.

Now I won’t quote or discuss the entire set of details regarding the conversation between Kumarshraman Keshi and King Pardeshi. But I were to give an insight then it would be that King Pardeshi stated his experiments one by one which he committed in order to arrive at the conclusion that the soul is the body and there is nothing left after the body dies. His experiments were nothing less than a horror story and mirrored the cruel ways of King Pardeshi. But the sheer simplicity and calmness with which Kumarshraman Keshi heard each and every experiment and answered it with a very simple and logical example made me realize that however complex be the problem, a clear and clarified insight into oneself, helps one give or make out a very simple solution for the problem. The answers were so practical too and the ways in which Kumarshraman Keshi taught King Pardeshi of how crucial his role was of that of a King and how him being a role model for the entire kingdom, his deeds have to be exemplary. Such were the words of Kumarshraman Keshi that King Pardeshi was convinced by the end of the conversation that the soul is indeed different than the body and the soul survives the body after one dies.

What follows the change of King Pardeshi from an atheist to a theist is much more interesting. The reader then comes across a plot where the King’s wife tries to kill her own husband and how King Pardeshi reacts to the same is a meaningful insight into the mind of a theist. For me the entire storyline was so well crafted that anyone would find themselves so involved in the story that it becomes hard to keep the book down and for me it is the ending which surprised me the most. It would actually be my humble request to the readers of this article that the book is a must read irrespective of your belief and to just enjoy the sheer writing of Acharya Mahapragya Ji.

About the Book

It has been said that for someone to understand a subject in detail, a preface or a foresight into the basics or the fundamentals of that subject is necessary. The same holds true for Jain Philosophy as well and this book I believe provides a foreword to the fundamentals of the Jain Philosophy. The book is based on the text named Pacchis Bol, which is a compendium of 25 maxims, which carry the analysis of the living and the non-living beings, both lucidly and scientifically. A brief of these 25 maxims are:

Gati

The 4 states of existence of Worldly Beings

Praan

The 10 types of Bio-Energy

Gunasthaan

The 14 stages of spiritual development

Dandak

The 24 kinds of places of Karmik Fruition

Raashi

The 2 categories of Beings

Jati

The 5 Classes of Beings on the basis of senses

Sharer

The 5 types of Body

Paanchindriyon ke Vishay

The 23 Objectives of Five Sense Organs

This book unlike any other book of Acharya Mahapragya Ji is actually written like a Text Book for the easy and simple understanding of these profound concepts and in a question answer format has answered the intrinsic questions which would arise in the mind of a reader while reading the book. Since there were numerous concepts in the book which could have been best expressed through pictorial formats, I also took the liberty to draw them into diagrams for an elucidate understanding of our readers.

Gati- The 4 states of existence of Worldly Beings

It has been said that the soul is an immortal being. Therefore its existence does not end with the death of the living being and rather the soul transmits from one form to another and the 4 states of existence amongst which the soul transmigrates are Narakgati i.e. the land where the hellish beings resides, Tiryanchgati i.e. the sub-human form consisting of all the organisms with one-sense organ to the five-sense organs excluding humans, Manushyagati i.e. the human state and Devgati i.e. the heavenly abode. The soul shifts its existence amongst these 4 states until its liberation.

Jaati- The 5 Classes of Beings

The classification amongst the living beings is made on the basis of the number of sense organs, i.e. jaati. On such a classification we come across the 5 classes of Ekendriya i.e. the one-sense beings, Dveendriya i.e. the two-sense beings, Treendriya i.e. three-sense beings, Chaturindriya i.e. four-sense beings, Panchendriya i.e. five-sense beings

Kaay- The 6 kinds of Beings

The classification of the world beings is also done on the basis of the material cluster by which these bodies are made up of. These material clusters can be in the form of Earht, Water, Fire, Air, Plant and Mobility and hence the classification.

Shareer- The 5 types of Body

The Soul does not have any material body, yet its presence can be felt through the bodies of all living entitites. The soul itself constructs its own body and uses it to carry out all the activities of life. Therefore there is no doubt about the fact that the soul is a completely different entity than the soul and in fact the body has been defined to be as an instrument for experiencing the material related pain and pleasure. The body can further be divided into Audaarik Body i.e. such bodies which can stay back even after they dissociate from the soul, Vikriya Body i.e. such bodies which adopt different forms and which disintegrate after death as camphor, Aahaarak Body i.e. such a body which is build with a special kind of matter by an ascetic with the knowledge of 14 poorvas, Taijas Body i.e. such a body which is capable of digesting food and is composed of luminous atom and the Kaarman Body i.e. such a body which is made of material aggregates of eight karmas.

Yog- The 15 types of Activities

The activity of the soul carried out through the body, speech, and mind is known as Yog. The soul carries out its operations with the assistance of material power which is also known as Yog. The efforts of the soul are called Bhaav Yog and those that are out of the corroborative material is called Dravya Yog respectively. The further classification goes accordingly:

Karma- The 8 types of Karmas

The subtle veil of impurity attached to the soul is known as Karmas. It is matter and non-living. The karmic clusters are bound to the soul according to the intensity of our passion and fickleness in the form of activity. Although these karmik aggregates are of the same kind, they have different names according to their effect on a soul such as obscuring, distorting or effecting:

Interesting Points in the Book

  • The soul in order to travel from one state of being to another either travels through Rijugati i.e. movement without turns which requires no extra effort from the soul because as the soul leaves the body, it accelerates towards the new destination or through Vakragati i.e. movement with turns.
  • The Asangi (Sammurchchhim) Manushya are such beings which are humans produced in the excreta, urine, cough etc of human beings and do not possess a mind.
  • The source of life forces is not only organs such as the brain, heart, lungs etc but it is in the ten bio-energies also. There are examples where a person’s vital organs had stopped their activities but the person’s life-span bio energy was still functioning.
  • The diversity in all living forms is only because of their karma. Some are wise and some are foolish, some are attached and some are detached, some scholars are poor and some fools are millionaires. In association with certain circumstances, the respective karmas become active and affect our life.
  • When the worldly souls are completely cleansed of all karmic bondages, then no further karmic attractions or bondages can occur. Karmic bondages can occur only to the worldly souls with existing karmic veils.
  • It is the degree of variation in purity and impurity in the stream of thought which results in the aural colorations which are classified as forms of leshyas. The first three are auspicious and the last three are inauspicious.
  • Just like mantras are used to accumulate the poison of a snake bite spread in the whole body to one place, the concentration of the wavering mind is brought to a single thought through focus and meditation.

About the Book

Just as a body need food to survive in order to gain all the nutrition, we require for carrying out a day-to-day activity similarly our mind and inner personality requires nutrition for carrying out tasks which consume our mental health. Nowadays one of the trending topics in today’s world is mental health and inner personality this book written by Acharya Mahapragya ji is an excellent guide on achieving a great personality not only on the outside but also on the inside.

Time and again we have understood the importance of meditation as it is one of the most important steps to achieve great inner personality.  People say mind works in miraculous ways.  We also say that our mind has the power to manifest.  What exactly do we mean by manifestation?  It is important to have a strong mind in order to manifest as there is an old saying that one should always say positive things as our Jivha (Tongue) has the Gods residing on it. Hence, in order to achieve the peace of mind that we all Crave for in the today’s world the nutrition for our personality and mind is very essential.

By practicing meditation there are various sounds that are practiced along with it each sound has its own specific importance.  Some sounds are known to increase your concentration while some are specifically incline towards knowing peace with your heart. For learning this art of meditation how to improve our inner personality by nourishing it with the right amount of of food for the soul, a right and experienced mentor is the key. This book compiled by Acharya Mahapragya ji also has a few real-life examples and new stories which makes it even easier to understand and practical applicability of nutrition for inner personality. Acharya Mahapragya ji not only talks about spirituality or for meditation but also has put forth to the relevant scientific comparisons to show the same.  In accordance with my opinion no matter old or young one must read this book in order to get a better understanding of life and basically how to enjoy our lives and not be affected by mental health.

Today’s youth is badly affected with various mental illnesses such as depression etc which comes from lack of time for your mind and inner self. In the ancient times people did not have these receive mental diseases as the focused not only on their self physically but also so put emphasis on mental health by practicing yoga and meditation.  We have become so busy in our day-to-day life that we all have forgotten to focus on the inner personality and are just rushing to the end of the day to relax but all in all we forget to make some time for our mental peace.   In modern times, relaxation is achieved through watching dramas, going out with friends in order to maintain a social status but completely forgetting about our inner self and mind which requires nourishment for itself. In this book focus is on the word Bhavana which means contemplative meditation. This book deals with the following:

  • Bhavana of transitoriness
  • Bhavna of non refuge
  • Bhavna of transmigration
  • Bhavana of solitariness
  • Bhavana of otherness, of separation
  • Bhavana of cleanliness
  • Bhavana of influx
  • Bhavana of restraint
  • Bhavana of dissociation of karma
  • Bhavana of righteousness
  • Bhavana of cosmic configuration
  • Bhavana of the rarity of enlightenment
  • Bhavana of friendliness
  • Bhavana of appreciation
  • Bhavana of compassion
  • Bhavna of Indifference

Some of the extracts from the book are as follows:

  • To pull out at home with the help of a thorn equally applies in the field of spiritual practice
  • In Bhavana there is room for both theory and practice
  • If you have a subject in your mind if you have chosen for yourself and aim and and you are engaged in contemplative meditation. That is Bhavana.
  • A person whose consciousness it is firmly established that all union is transitory and that material object is perishable, is not perturbed at the loss of material goods.
  • He who is not fully acquainted with his own being, cannot feel secure anywhere.
  • Irrespective of the fact whether the person belongs to, to a person who enters the ground of spirituality seeking the truth, make a similar discovery.
  • The influx of yoga and the influx of passion- these two are responsible for the attraction and synthesis of Karma.
  • A person who appeared to be quite study before meditation, at least did not appear to be too fickle, grows unimaginably restless.
  •  Quash your anger, curb your lust, suppress your feeling, and inhibit your ego.
  •  Radiance in a life which illuminate our senses, mind and intellect, children with light
