About the Book

Society is necessary but the most significant thing is the person is created by human beings for their basic needs and other social aspects of life. But it is Ironic that society has become the bigger truth and the freedom and the independent existence of a human is forgotten importance universal truth is independence existence is real why society is a temporal truth. If human being become secondary there will be problems in the society century has created a lot of problems become peripheral entity in the larger good the society and country. It’s OK to consider one entity secondary for certain purpose but there should be balance blocking if you always put a right leg in the front we cannot work and will be stuck in one place forever. Our Attitude and systems have a natural tendency to cast things as primary and secondary that we have to create a balance the primary thing is in same context might become secondary and vice versa. We cannot be rigid regarding our attitude and ideology but unfortunately we have made human beings complete the insignificant our whole purpose is to safeguard the interests of the society in the great Ape of the society we consider it right to kill a human being venation on lock up in the gym this is created a lot of problems. The authentic behaviour and leadership are the foundation of a healthy and Happy society ringgit today in the era of scientific progress and cognitive development we are engaged in cheating and distress. Progressed a lot in the field of physical and material world but we are forgotten the emotional and spiritual aspect of our life Ling the values of authentic behaviour in a society it is the real path of progress for societyPope Benedict XVI delivered a speech in Milan when he opened the 7th World Meeting of Families. Inter alia, he said that the family is humanity’s “principal asset.” He highlighted the importance of faith and the family in today’s society; “the importance of legislation and the work of state institutions being ordered to the service and protection of the person in his various aspects, beginning with the right to life, the deliberate suppression of which can never be allowed, and the acknowledgement of the proper identity of the family, founded on marriage between one man and one woman.” He called for a defense of family time. He said we should make time for God, work and for family. He appealed for Church communities that are more and more family oriented.

“The Family” is worded as “The” and not “A” and this itself gives the impression of what the Book is all about. The Family means a Whole and not in part but at the same time this Book does speak of how an Individual is a Society. The Nation, second word of the Book summarizes the whole intention of this Book. There has been lot of discussion and debate round the Globe as to what is the role of Family towards Nation’s growth and how important is the role of Family and what it gives to the Nation as whole. The importance of Family to the Nation growth can be better understood by the fact that Article 38.1 of the Lithuanian Constitution clearly states that “A family is the foundation for a society and country”.

Only a Strong and Happy family can lead to the birth of Noble Nation is the motto of this Book.

Late Shri A P J Kalam was of the view that “Economic growth or military strength alone won’t make India strong, a truly sustainable society, at the heart of which is the family, is very much necessary”

It is often said that the present young generation has no strong sense of familial bonding. In the past, when the joint family system was common, relationships between members of the family were a lot stronger and smoother. Today, a nuclear family or a single-parent family is the way of life, and it is generally believed that the family bonds are not fostered and nurtured in this kind of setup. I do not think anyone will question the importance of a well-knit family. In a joint family there was a good mix of hierarchy of age, experience and a power structure; grandparents practised and taught values, ethics, life skills, and even basics about etiquette. Family values were established and cherished, there was a give and take relationship, and love and affection filled the atmosphere.

What this Book will give to Readers?

  • Knowledge about India and its Ancient History in a very brief aspect
  • Importance of Joint Family
  • Knowing the various aspect of life which leads to happiness and being successful which leads to Nations Growth

About the Author

His writings bring about an all-round development of one’s life and thus are rendering a great service to humanity. Mankind will forever be obliged to him for his contribution that he has made through his literature

About the Book

Acharya Mahapragya ji through the pages of this book have taken us across the very fundamentals of behavioural psychology. The book very effortlessly and swiftly gives an answer to almost each and every family problem that the modern world witnesses. Such family problems which usually seem to be never ending and devoid of any solution, are easily decoded in this book. It would be wrong to state the book only focuses on family ties and only those people who wish to find a solution to their family shall read this book. The truth is that the book has been written so beautifully that one para carries multi-dimensional meanings. For me it was not only about family, but also about how family is the fundamental unit of a nation, how a team is formed and what is it that actually binds a team?, the one whole and sole solution to almost every family or team problem, meditation practise and at last a little insight into some of the perils of our Society like dowry.

Family

The book lays its foundation by introducing the two basics of individual consciousness, i.e. Spiritual and Selfish Consciousness. It is said that if Spiritual Consciousness is to “I am alone. I was born alone. I experience joy and sorrow alone. My soul is alone and has no company”, then Selfish Consciousness is to “I am alone. I will earn for myself and work for myself. Eat by myself and live by myself”. Where at one place the spiritual consciousness gives birth of freedom from worldly problems, it is the selfish consciousness which forms the birthing ground for distressed family ties and this where we are introduced to the concept of Family, as a an ensemble of beings who have allowed their selfish consciousness to turn humane and have awakened their spiritual consciousness.

Acharya Mahapragya Ji very beautifully introduces the idea of non-violence to the concept of family and goes on to explain that how an man alone cannot experience either violence or non-violence however the existence of violence can be only be felt when in company and hence came the idea of how first lesson of non-violence can first be learned when in a family.

“Tolerating each other instead of making differences prevail is the first step for peaceful co-existence.”

What does actually a tiff i.e. loss of peace in family?

Acharya in the very begining of this chapter introdcues us to a verse from Samaysar:

“the soul engrossed in anger is anger,

the soul engrossed in pride is pride,

the sould engrossed in lust is lust and

the soul engrossed in greed is greed”

Anger:

Anger is said to be the biggest reason behind breaking of family ties and even though one element is short-tempered in a family, his companion is tolerant enough. The issue arises when both the elements are of the same temperamental value hence working on a tit-for-tat attitude, which would no longer result in a peaceful co-existence.

Pride

Just as anger, ego also acts a family breaker. A proud man is never hardworking. He is lazy and useless. It is said that only a modest and humble person can lead a happy family life devoid of anger and pride.

Greed

In this trilogy of peace breaking traits, the third element is the element of greed. A greedy man has been described to be ever worried for he is more inquisitive about the growth and happiness of others rather than being insightful about his inner peace.

The one word answer to all problems- TOLERANCE

The people today have forgotten the art of Tolerance. It is sad to state that in today’s world tolerance is seen to be a sign of weakness and stupidity. But rather Tolerance is the sign of a strong soul who keeps the peace of the family above the cries of ego and pride. It is power of adapting, adjustising, tolerating and learning which has been placed at the highest par for strengthening any family ties. Above all the power of meditation and deep breathing has also been bought forth in the book, in making one realise their potential of tolerance.

Three reasons behind breaking of peace in families

The Self and The Team

There are three basic requirements of a being:
  • Assurance
  • Trust
  • Progress
It is human tendency to seek assurance to get rid of his uncertainty, to seek trust amongst people with whom we can share our hearts and to seek progress in achieving the milestones of life. It is an organization which helps one satisfy all these three requirements and such an ideal organization is a family. Even in a management team in a corporate house, the team leader has to understand that all his team mates also seek the above three requirements from it team and their leader. Once the team lead realizes the same, he shall be able to create a strong, highly motivated and self-adjusting tolerating team for itself. The art of management of human beings also deals with some similar criterions. Ancient management techniques have amalgamated twelve bhavanas along with 4 elements as:
The Four Elements of Management
  • Amity- being concerned about each others well being
  • Appreciation of virtues- being appreciative towards each others virtues
  • Compassion- dealing with problems peacfeully refraining from cruelty
  • Indifference- realising that not everyone feels the same emotions

You can change your Destiny

In this part of the book is the description of an incident of Achrya Tulsi when in 1993, Acharya Tulsi was in Rajaldesar, a small town in Rajasthan. An astrologer predicted that Acharya Tulsi would not be able to leave Rajaldesar. Still, Acharya Shree departed from there. After that he predicted that Acharya Shree would not be able to celebrate Maryada Mahotsav in Sujangadh. But the astrologer was proven wrong again. The third prediction was that Acharya Tulsi would not be able to go to Delhi. He reached Delhi as well and guided the Terapanth order for two more years to come.

So does this conclude that Astrology is false and holds no truth in its findings. This is not so. Rather the truth to be acknowledged here is that Astrology is not to be blamed. But we should understand the principle of Lord Mahavir that “’Hard work, strong willpower and our self-confidence along with restraint can change our destiny.” We should have faith in the fact that we can gain control over our emotions and balance them.

Meditation

It appears that there are many problems in family life. It is also natural that we tend to link up all these problems with each other resulting in a even more bigger and imaginary problem. People may appear happy from the outside but are actually distressed from within and this distress doesnt come from outside. It is self created and the reason behind the creation of the same is impurity of the unconscious mind. So, how does one purify his unconscious mind? the answer is meditation. Meditation is the solution to change the negative attitutde of the soul and instil concentration, purify the mind, minimize anger, pride, deceit and greed within us. It has been quoted in the book that,

“I am a conscious being,’

attachment and aversion are not my nature,

violence is not my nature;

I’m just a knower and observer”

What I learnt from this Book?

This Book for me after reading shall be part of all the Library and must be read by all ages but specially Young Generation for the reasons that this Book actually is nothing to do with the religion aspect but it shows that how “I” has become “You” and “We” has become “Different” and how due to this “I” is dying slowly and “You” is not even there to guide “I” and there is a mindset that “We” will be part of the journey but it is only “I” who is the sole journey to life, business, success, happiness and in this so called fame and illusion  “I” has already been lost.

The best part of this Book is that this if read along with Economics of Mahaveera and Rishabhayan: The Story of the First King, the first shall be this Book and the concept of this Book defines the intention of Keval Gyani Mahaveera in his Books.

My Astonishment on this Book and Author

I have been reading books of Acharya Mahapragya and my first book was “My Nation My Family” and that took me four readings to understand the language and the flow though the intent of the book I knew but post reading I was amazed the way and manner in which Acharya Mahapragya wrote his books. I thought this is the best book I have read and was in awe. This motivated me to write my first book and I wrote and got published in Year 2019. Thereafter I read second book “Rishabhayan: The Story of the First King” and trust me I was in another time, period and life and I made up my mind that this is better book then earlier. I further then read the “The Mirror of The Self” and that book took almost 14 days for me to read minutely and I was shocked the way book contains the whole guide of life and this 239 pages shows the way to live the life, science of body and other aspects and I made the mind that this is best book I read of Acharya Mahapragya. By this time, I realised that I made a mistake in saying that first book was good, second was better for the reasons that I realised that books written by such an enlightened person Acharya Mahapragya books have to be brilliant as all this is his personal knowledge and it is said that if you are the master in practical and practice, theory will show as practical and this is what the books of Acharya Mahapragya are all about

When I say this Book is most relevant for Younger Generation and Business Entrepreneurs is for reasons as under:

  • Those Business Ventures are successful where the Founders and Directors are aware of themselves and their Goal and the manner in which the Goals have to be reached
  • Business Owners shall know the importance of RESTRAINT and for the same, this Book goes into the detailed fact of how to be a Restraint in your Business smaller goals
  • Health is Wealth – If the Owners are personally fit from inside and not out then there is no stopping to creating a success story. Being Self-Conscious is the key to Success and why, the answer is in this Book
  • Goal and Plans for Business can be taken only if there is mindfulness observation and talk and this Book teaches the way of being Mindfulness rather than opposite
  • Mantra of Highly Successful Business is “Consciousness and Action Moving in One Direction” and to know more, this Book is the best book to understand
  • Action and Reaction matters in Successful Business Venture and this is where Great Mentality comes in picture – This Books sheds the light in this aspect – do you know one shall avoid any reaction for 24 hours to have effective result?
  • Know that “Response is Linked with Conduct” = Remember RATAN TATA for this aspect
  • Balance Diet is the mantra for Successful People
  • Being Business Owners is not easy as it becomes your duty to speak to World at large and here the “Principle of Moderation in Speech” comes and for the same, this Book is encyclopaedia. He who does not follow the “Principle of Moderation in Speech” fails half way and best example is Posting in Twitter era.
  • Understand Oneself is Understanding the World and once this concept is part of one’s life, Success is bounds to come
There are many Start-ups which are failing and the reasons we given is Business Model. No doubt it is a fact and the other aspect of failing Business is also for not knowing the key concept of “Oneself”. For example, Conduct is the important word in growth and Restrain is the whole guidance of Growth and if one is not aware of the Restrain policy, one will fal either in Business or personal life. We are acquainted with the mirror, also with the reflection in the mirror; but we have little idea of the real, the original. What we take for the real, is actually an image. The purpose of the present book is to help the reader evolve a mirror of the self, so as to be acquainted with the reality of himself.

About the Book

A reading with rapt attention of the book is divided in 11 chapters and developed in 158 Pages with concise but informative outlines of the basic teachings of Mahaveera which are relevant to the real understanding of economics.

Lord Mahavira was born in the royal family of Bihar in 599 BC. His father’s name was king Siddhartha and mother’s name was queen Trishala. The divine child was called Vardhamana- which means continuously. The young boy was very bright and courageous lad who showed extraordinary skills at a very young age. Mahavira achieved enlightenment kevala-jnana on the 13th year of his ascetic life and therefore was latter called Mahavira (the name is from Sanskrit language Maha-great & Vira-hero). For all the readers, Bhagwan Mahaveera does not have the meaning of God but the term Bhagwan here means “one who is knowledgeable” and since Mahaveera achieved enlightenment kevala-jnana he is called as Bhagwan Mahaveera.

Mahaveer gave the ideas for human civilization, which are even today widely followed in India. These ideas are contrary to modern economic planning in many ways and therefore these ideas can help us in attaining sustainable development goals. While the present day economists encourage consumption just contrary to traditional Indian wisdom and ideas of Mahaveer, who asked for restraint on consumption and for adoption of care and caution in consumption. While present day economists believe that higher the consumption of goods and services, the better it would be, the ideas of Mahaveer are almost the opposite. The ideas of Mahaveer have been presented again in the present times by Acharya Mahapragya in the form of Relative Economics. Relative Economics is the branch of economics, which mentions the goals of economic planning.

Acharya Mahapragya (1920-2010) is well known saint and scholar in many fields like philosophy, meta-physics, religion, linguistics etc. His one of the most important contribution has been to raise our awareness about relative economics. His assertion that relative economics is the solution for the problems of tomorrow is the message for all economists and policy makers. Relative economics enables us to give a broader framework to our economic indicators. Relative Economics should definitely evolve from India only as this is a broader framework in comparison to the present day economic indicators. The present economic system looks at material resources and overall production as indicators of prosperity. Relative economics looks at the following issues:

a) the development of countries and regions should be studies not just on a few indicators, but on broader parameters.

b) impact of our policies on the overall happiness and overall well-being of people must be studied

c) impact of our acts on other living beings should also be noticed and we should go for a balanced development, with focus on sustainable development

d) impact of our plans and policies on the long term survival and sustainance of our planet.

Economics is the science and art of economic prosperity and the limitation of wealth is the science of peace. To drive happiness from economic affluence without peace is difficult if not impossible. We need harmonization between fulfilment of economic needs and peace. Economics based on relative principle and the economics of peace are complementary to each other in all times to come

The central focus: man and money, the economic concept of development, economics of non -violence and peace, limitations of individual ownership and personal consumption, environment and economics, poverty and unemployment, Mahavira, Marx, Keynes and Gandhi, parameters of new economic policy, livelihood with religion: limits of desires, introspection and clarifications, Mahavira and Economics are the headings of the 11 chapters worth reading and grasping the content therein.

What exactly the Book covers?

Lord Mahaveera has laid 12 vows for human being for living their life in peace and prosperity. These are the basic elements for sustainable development is nonviolence. The main aim of these vows is to self-restraint, nonviolence in every activity and detachment to materiality. Following are the brief description of 12 vows: –

1. Vow of Nonviolence

2. Vow of Truthfulness

3. Vow of Non-stealing

4. 4.Vow of Chastity

5. Vow of Non Possession

6. Vow of Restricting Activity to a Limited Area

7. Vow of Restricting Objects of Enjoyment

8. Vow of Refraining from Evil Activities

9. Vow of Equanimity

10. Vow of Further Limiting the Area of Movement

11. Vow of Temporarily Living as an Ascetic

12. Vow of Sharing with Ascetics

These vows can be practiced by individual in his day to day life and are very useful in contributing towards sustainable development goal. As individual is the basic unit and centre of sustainable development by which we can bring major changes in the universe and can approach for a better balanced life

We can say that following six components are mutually interrelated:

1. Non-Violent Thought process

2. Non-Violent Action

3. Non-Violent Communication

4. Non-Violent Culture and Way of Earning

5. Non-Violent Environment

6. Non-Violent Media

Modern Economics Vs Mahaveera Economics

Modern Economics has espoused the theory that man’s lure of self-interest needs to be enhanced. It has, therefore, become the main objective of today’s economics that, as far as possible, the attitude of self-interest should be promoted. Development is measured by promotion of self-interest. Keynes strongly advocated this theory. Personal motivation of personal self-interest stimulates more work from man than anything else. It is very clear to us that self-interest is a big inspiration. Accordingly, the theory that modern economics has established is meaningful and attractive. Every person should enhance his self-interest as much as possible and earn as much wealth as he can. The principles presented by communism are no less attractive. It promises that nobody will remain hungry, remain without a house, without clothing and without employment. Everybody’s needs will be satisfied. This was and has remained an attractive dream of communism. The strategy goal of communism has been to grab power, which should be rested in the hands of the economically weaker, backward or the working class.

Dr. Marshall and other economists who followed him have conceded that, while the question of morality may also be considered, morality was not an imperative. Keynes said when we become prosperous economically, then alone will arise the occasion to think about morality. The present is no proper time for that. Whatever is wrong today might also be useful at the moment. Economics is based on the concept of utility and, therefore, it does not consider there is anything wrong in that. What is useful is right and is desirable, it is maintained. Economics has accepted the principle of limitlessness of wants.

Dr. Marshall has written: “The desires and wants of people are innumerable and are of various types”. As a man fulfils one want, another springs up. He cannot fulfil all his wants in his entire life. On the basis of this special feature of wants, economists established the ‘Law of Progress’. Because of limitless desires, newer and newer inventions are made. As a result, the economic development of society is also achieved.

Keynes described the main objective of economics by advocating that every poor man should become rich, become prosperous. The objective is certainly alluring

Mahaveera Economics

Mahavira preached that right faith (Samyak-darshana), right knowledge (Samyak-jnana) and right conduct (Samyak-charitra) together will help to attain the liberation of one’s self. His entire teachings revolve around purification of soul. His values are based on five vows of non-violence (Ahimsa) – to cause no harm to living beings, devotion to truth (Satya)-to always speak the truth in a harmless manner, Non-stealing (Asteya) – to not take anything that is not willingly given, celibacy (Brahmacharya) – to not indulge in sensual pleasure and non-possession (Aprigraha) to detach from people places and material things. Lord Mahavir said, “Dhammo mangal mukkitham ahimsa, sanjamo tao”. That means religion or spirituality based on nonviolence, restraint and austerity is the best auspicious for mankind. Mahavira economics is based on these principles. He said that “A living body is not merely an integration of limbs and flesh but it is the abode of soul which potentially has perfect perception (Anant-darsharna), perfect knowledge (Anant-jnana), perfect power (Anant-virya) and perfect bliss (Anant-sukha). Mahavira’s message reflects freedom and spiritual joy of living being. Mahavir studied these patterns of human behaviour and propensities for deviation and laid down a twelve-fold code of conduct for his disciples based on twelve small vows. One of these vows, viz., yathasamivibhaga vrata, that means sharing plays an important role in giving rise to a new economic model envisioned. This vow alone, if observed by most of the people of this world, can create a sustainable and nonviolent society in the world. Mahavir goes to the extent of saying that asamvibhagassa hu natthi mokkho meaning he who does not share his resources, eatables and other objects of daily use with others will not attain liberation. Another important vow is upabhoga – paribhoga parimana. It says that one should daily make a list of things or articles of daily consumption that one will use during the day and refrain from consuming any other article. Mahavir said annahanan pasae pariharejja. He said that a seer or an enlightened person will consume things differently. He will use and consume only those things which are absolutely necessary for his sustenance. He will not waste anything nor will he crave or pine for unnecessary or luxurious things. He will not succumb to his desires for material things. Economics is the science of material prosperity while the voluntary limitation of accumulation of wealth is the science of peace as prescribed by Mahavir. The equation of Mahavira’s Economics is:

limit to wealth = peace plus happiness

Mahaveera’s welfare economic concept has given more attention towards the welfare of both man and material or total eco system. His philosophy is humanitarian in nature of perfect bliss and perfect happiness. In this process, one has to follow three spiritual steps. These three steps show the way for emancipation of soul. They are known as Samyak Jnana, Samyak darsan and Samyak charitha.

Mahaveera’s Jain philosophy gives importance to good economic deed or karma. Annihilation of all karmas is necessary to obtain emancipation of soul. Lord Mahaveera taught the religion for thirty years and organized the system of ascetic and house holder. During Mahaveera’s time, people were mostly engaged in agriculture and diary industries, the small portion of population was engaged in trade, commerce, small-scale manufacturing, mining, forestry and day-to-day service providers and warrior.
