Awaken Your Mind

About the Author

Being a poet along with being a philosopher is a rare combination. Acharyashri Mahapragya is a great poet besides being a great philosopher. The literature written by Acharyashri Mahapragya is proving very effective like panacea in solving the horrible problems of the present age like tension, lack of sensitivity, excitement, depression, terrorism, inferiority complex, hatred, fraud, immorality, lack of authenticity and absence of peace. In the books of Acharya Mahapragya, solutions of various problems have been given by way of experiments and training. His writings bring about an all-round development in one’s life and thus are rendering a great service to the humanity. Mankind will forever be obliged to him for his contribution that he has made through his literature.

About the Book

The human mind is just like water. It can take the shape, colour of any thing that is mixed into it. In this book Acharya Mahapragyaji has beautifully penned down the importance of mindfulness. The colours individually are very beautiful in themselves. If two colours are mixed together, they can either create a beautiful new colour or they can destroy the individuality of the colours. Similarly, there needs to be a balance between what we are doing and how our lifestyle progresses along with knowledge and health.

This book is a beautiful mixture of experiences and real-life situations. One can always learn through the advice of the elders but, they need a real-life experience to go into it and understand the said words. We all have at some point in our life heard about the power of manifestation from some influencer or motivational speaker. These people fail to actually teach how to manifest things rightly and how to make our mind strong enough to manifest right things in the right way.

This book is exactly what the young generation of today needs. We live in a world where even slightest things affect us. Things such as Panic attacks, anxiety attacks, overthinking, taking things to our heart and causing grief over it are quite common. We take such things so seriously and we have forgotten the theory of 5-5. This theory is simple if things are not going to affect us after five years one must not think about it for more than five minutes but we fail to apply this because we fail to have a stable mindset. After reading this book, we can achieve the stable mindset.

We live in a busy world where we are only concerned about our outer appearance and forget that no matter how important our outer self is, our inner self is even more important. This book teaches everyone and is suitable for each and every human being because no matter what, we all at some point need the power of manifestation but apart from overthinking. This book in my opinion is a guide, a mentor for us young generation specially to know about ourselves better. We are reckless we buy new clothes for our outer appearance but never practice meditation or any kind of penance for our inner mind. Just as new clothes, jewellery enhance outer looks, meditation, mindfulness in our activities enhance our inner self.

Now the question arises how do we practice this? The very simple answer to it is knowing ourselves. But now how do we know ourselves? The answer lies in reading this book as a simple review cannot sum up the great thoughts of Acharya Mahapragyaji.

Excerpts to Remember from this book:

  • Vital energy is resistance power. Because it’s deficiency, the disease is not cured inspite of treatment.
  • Once life-force is lost, death is inevitable.
  • Overeating of delicious food gives birth to many diseases. Therefore, controlled and moderate diet is significant in maintaining the health.
  • We have the baggage from the past and we carry it for a long time.
  • If action is guided by action only, then the discrimination power for his doings will work and there will be no guideline for any work.
  • There is a chain. Necessity was born first, and it gave rise to dearness and that further contributed to the rise of attachment.
  • Wealth or money is not everything. In life, there are two important things- Intelligence and health.
  • When the desire and fickleness of mind rule the life, there is greatness or mobility does not get a chance to appear.
  • The first indication of the awakening of the sleeping mind is decrease in the desire and the second indication is decrease in the fickleness caused by fear.
  • If a person is mentally healthy, it becomes easy to solve any problem.
  • Before everything, a battle first takes birth in the mind of a human, and the idea of manufacturing weapons also is born in the human mind first.
  • The primary goal of meditation is to reduce the intensity of attachment and hatred.
  • If a man behaves in manner which doesn’t cause any inconvenience or hindrance to others, then the consciousness of equality of souls become practical.
  • Man is influenced by the solar system and during these moments the psychology changes, the thinking changes and the habits too. There are many external factors affecting a man. The inner factor is the secretion of the glands and the fruition of karma which also keeps changing.
  • Instability of the chitta is the main problem. It troubles so much that not even the social disparity or the economic disparity troubles as much.

Find the Way to Defeat the Challenges

His writings bring about an all-round development in one’s life and thus are rendering a great service to the humanity. Mankind will forever be obliged to him for his contribution that he has made through his literature.

About the Book

“Who is free from all problems and worries? It’s a simple question but its answer is a difficult one. The person who gets anxious on facing problems can never be free from problems. A person who knows how to face problems can be ultimately free from the problems.”

It is an innate desire for almost every human to be free from the shackles of suffering and problems. However, the process of achieving the same is the question to be answered. In this book, I have observed that instead of giving an answer directly or right away, Acharya Mahaprgaya has rather shown us a path, following which the reader will find an answer for himself and the answer would be unique to that reader only, for it will be the output of his own mind. This is the uniqueness of this book that it makes the reader think, enquire and self-introspect as the book proceeds ahead.

Some of the major topics which have been covered in this book are:
  • The nature provides a hint to the solution seekers.
  • Once a theory is proved in the laboratory of life, only then it can provide practical solutions to life’s problems.
  • To lead a meaningful life, control over the mind is necessary.
  • Even though circumstances are not within our hands, but the power to transform is within ourselves.
  • Denying other’s existence is a denial of one’s own existence.
  • Inequality leads to intolerance and intolerance shatters the human relationships.
  • It is the fear in our mind which allows others to dominate us.
  • Awareness, Virtuous Action, Optimism and Positive Emotions are the key to change one’s destiny
  • It is essential to balance the comfort and peace of mind.

The book has actually been written on the lines of solving the problems not only on a microscopic level (personal and emotional problems) but even on a macroscopic level (team building and management problems along with the national problems). The reading of this book, actually reminded me of the great Anuvratmovement started in the 1940’s by Ganadipathi Acharya Tulsi. In a way, the Anuvratwas also based on the similar principle of bringing a change in every individual human being so that a significant change could be observed in the workings of the entire nation and this book is also written in a similar pattern wherein solution seekers either at the microscopic or macroscopic level shall be able to indulge in.

Microscopic view of Problems and their Solution

When talking about the quest of solutions at an individual’s level, the book offers the readers an insight into the complex processes of the mind which when defragmented, would automatically reap a solution. The first step is imagination. The human mind is the most advanced brain in the entire gene pool and to be honest, it has the abilities to predict, presume and prevent the future incidents. So when our brains so capable, the question comes to why not use these capabilities to imagine, that too with clarity. To imagine the various possibilities, various solutions, various outcomes of one challenge and once this is done, 25% of the work is done. Following imagination is visualization, i.e. to construct a mental picture of the imagination. Creation of a mental image of one’s goal also creates a lot of difference. Keeping this image alive with enthusiasm, passion and patience, will eventually make it a reality. Imagination, visualization and perfecting concentration on that picture, when completed, the dreams then get materialized. However, there are times when few of our dreams are not able to materialize and the reason is because the same gets lost in the labyrinth of problems. It is because of getting disturbed of these problems that our concentration breaks and we lose sight of our dreams.

The book further discusses that how the nature also conspires to turn our imaginations and visualizations into realities. It is rather a very interesting phenomenon of nature that it provides clues to one who is searching for a solution and the one who understands these clues takes the decision accordingly at the right time which provides a new shape to his life. The book also quotes an extract from the famous book, The Alchemist that,

“When you really desire to get something, the whole universe conspires to have you meet your desire”

The Churning of the Mind is also an essential aspect of the process. To be successful, one requires two basic components, i.e. physical strength and willpower. Without physical strength, one cannot survive in their field of work and how long will one sustain in the field of work, how to make efforts, what should be the response towards the consequence? All this is directed by the willpower. For regulating the two, churning or control over the mind is necessary and the same has to be achieved. Further, fickleness as well as stability both are regulated by the mind and it only through meditation that both can be regulated and balances. The self-regulation of the mind is necessary and to stabilize the wavering mind, it is necessary to change from within. Therefore, at the end the process of transformation is driven by the process of meditation.

Macroscopic view of the Problems and their Solution

The book also focuses on finding solutions to some macroscopic problems which might trouble either an organization or sometimes an entire nation. The concepts as discussed in this book very swiftly provide a purview of the two extreme Worlds and goes on to comment on some of the ill-wills troubling our Modern World too. The principle of Ankenat attracted my attention the most. Anekant means taking the decision based on the current mode but do not close the door to other possibilities. In way, it simply means that, do not think that this is the only way and ultimate alternative, all other doors are closed. Always to keep the possibilities alive. This way thousands of dimensions can be unveiled and dimensions that were beyond any imagination can also be unraveled. Now, using this principle in a workplace, I believe that it will be ultimate solution to every disagreement and in fact would be ideal way to take decisions even in regards to the running of the business, i.e. to keep all the possibilities at bay. In fact Anekant also provides the principle of courage and effort. It does not make a person pessimistic and hopeless. Rather, it says that do not accept the present as absolute and eternal.

An evil which has haunted our society for ages has also been discussed in the book and a possible solution has also been provided for. The problem of casteism is the one. It has been stated that while the Vaidic intellectuals segregated society into four groups on the basis of their action, the modern world concluded the same to be on the basis of their birth. It is the deep-rooted problem concept of birth-based division of society in the mind of the common people which is difficult to reverse. Today, it is easier to infuriate someone with hatred that no infuse them with feelings of love and friendship. The solution to this had been presented by Kevalgyani Mahavira ages ago. Instead of referring to ancient mythological books, he accredited that it is the actions of a person which determine the caste. If this ideology gets manifested in the society, it would pose a plausible solution to the riots not only in India but also arising around the World.

It is rather an irony that we are united yet divided, divided yet united. Our unity is synonymous to the feelings of equality and diversity symbolizes our different needs. It is natural for we humans to focus on our needs and wants. To give utmost importance to things we are attached to. However, we have a tendency to give undue importance to materialistic means and because this we try to validate our resources as more powerful and accomplished than other. This leads to division like hatred and pride in the minds of the people. Also, beware of such people who get hunger of power and in their quest for power forego the feelings of human unity, creating an atmosphere of disintegration.

There are many other such concepts regarding which the reader finds a deep discussion in the book. Therefore, it will be the reader who unfurls different solutions, unique to him along the reading of the pages of this book.

Questions answered in the book

  • Can imagining a solution manifest itself in reality?
  • What if my problems make me lose sight of my dream?
  • When my mind reaches a crossroad, how to choose the right path?
  • Is honest even necessary for being successful in life?
  • How to reach upon one single solution when there are numerous option before me?
  • How make my mind stand firm on one decision?
  • Who is independent in this World?
  • What to choose- practical solutions or theoretical answers?
  • Can we actually change someone else?
  • Who controls the mind? Where is the controller of the mind coming from?
  • How to use my energy in a productive way?
  • Can I transform myself?
  • Why do I always doubt myself?
  • Can I expect positive change in myself by reading books?
  • Am I egoistic? How to self analyze?
  • Is there any happiness in being alone?
  • How to create tolerance in oneself?
  • How to practice independent thinking?
  • Why is my life so complex?

  • How to control my anger?
  • What should we change- the situation or our own mental state?

His writings bring about an all-round development in one’s life and thus are rendering a great service to the humanity. Mankind will forever be obliged to him for his contribution that he has made through his literature.

About the Book

Soul is the primary unit of every living being and the way this soul interacts with the environment around us determines the actions and inactions of the human mind. One might think that their action are a result of the impulses of the mind. However, one must understand that there is something far more fundamental than the human mind which determines the action and inactions of the humans. It is the kashay, around a soul. In Jain Philosophy, the soul has been defined to be the purest in its pristine form emitting the most positive vibrations, which have to cross the region of kashay. Kashay is formed by the inauspicious karma formed by Anger, Ego, Deceit and Greed. So, the pure conscious energy has to pass through the impure kashay, thereby entering adhyavasy a state of where consciousness and body can be understood separately.

For one to understand the intrinsic science of behavioral studies and the cause-effect relations of the human emotions, it will be interesting to get an insight into the concepts of kashay, and its four contributing reasons, i.e. Anger, Ego, Deceit and Greed. An in detail reading of the book will give answers to the following queries:

  • Why does the degree of anger vary from person to person?
  • How to defeat anger? The diet, meditation and spiritual ways of defeating anger.
  • Being silent is sign of anger or sublimity?
  • How is possession of any kind ego?
  • The three symptoms of ego?
  • How self-respect is nothing but refined ego?
  • How ego is violence and humility is non-violence?
  • How sense of superiority is a human’s biggest mistake?
  • Can humility be the foundation of a great relationship?
  • What are the hinderances faced when treating ego?
  • Who is knowledgeable?
  • Why one must never shine alone?
  • How deception creates distrust?
  • How simplicity defeats deceit?
  • Being righteous is the treatment of deceit.
  • How greed destroys everything?
  • Why discontentment is the cause of our sorrows?
  • Aren’t we all mere witnesses?

Anger – Krodha

The very element of kashay, which we comes across is anger. It can be self-driven, influenced by others, a mixture of the two or an inherent instinct upon which no external or internal factor has any control. Whatever may be the reason behind the cause of anger, it will always be channeled through the body and even the best of the monks and rishis have fallen pray to this emotion of anger. Now what actually sets apart the anger amongst different people is the extent till which the anger lasts. It has been described in the book that higher the mediational powers of the person, the lesser will the extent of this anger. Anger will come indeed but will also vanish in seconds, leaving no signs of its existence and whereas in someone of the opposite nature will be ridden with the weight of this anger for days and sometimes even weeks and months, causing its effect on their physical health, mental health and even the surroundings around them will be disturbed because of this.

The book does devise some simple methods to help one get control over this emotion of anger, in ways like being diet conscious by following a sattvic diet and avoiding the junk, unhealthy and unnecessary food items in order to relieve the body of the internal causes of the anger. This can be followed by the practice of meditation like deep breathing practice, white color meditation and the method of khechari mudra. Khechari Mudra is the practice in which the practitioner either presses the tongue between the teeth and twists the tongue inside the mouth, touching it to the upper palate and the breathe. The logic being quite simple and amazing behind this practice that our tongues which the only reason behind the birth of anger in the first place, shall be at rest and cause a reduction in the fickleness, leading to development of concentration. Another long-term solution advised is to merely avoid the causes of the anger. If the anger is caused by an object, avoid to be near it. If the anger is caused by a person, simply avoid talking to them. Being silent in a situation which provokes the anger, is by far the best solution to avoid a sudden outbreak of anger.

Ego – Abhimaan

The concept of ego has been introduced in the book, with a very interesting line that,
“Ego can never arise when there is equality”
A very truthful statement. Ego can only arise when there are differences in abilities. Differences in beauty, body, knowledge, prosperity, understanding and many other creates a ground for ego to prosper. It is in such scenarios that the need of proving one’s superiority arises in our minds, giving birth to ego within us. But since when did things like knowledge, beauty and strength become the source of ego? It is when the soul is evolved with its qualities it is inly then that these don’t become a source of ego. Otherwise, when a person indulges in attachment and aversion, these become a source of ego and pride.

The presence of ego even has its own symptoms. A person stupefied with ego only looks upwards and never down. He never accepts the positivity’s of others and drawbacks of his own. Such is the charisma of ego that a person inflicted by it boasts that God comes to visit him. Now, even ego can be self inflicted, caused by actions of others, a mixture of the two or might be an inherent ego which upon which no external or internal factor has any control. It is also interesting to note that if we say that ego is the crude form, then self-respect is the refined form of the crude which is ego. In the spiritual aspect of life, both the crude and refined form have no space for existence. If one needs to flaunt their dignity, prosperity or pride, he is still attached to the material world and its perils.

A test of an egoistic behavior can be to simply test the way the person reacts to something new. An egoistic person is always in the notion that their thoughts are final and true thoughts, far away being receptive to new principles. However, a humble person is receptive and tolerant. He has the capacity to listen, contemplate and absorb the environment around him. This test is even applicable to the way the person shows respect to others. A donor who donates with respect to the recipient is a true donor, whereas a person who donates just for the sake donating is nothing but an egoistic person. It is one of the greatest virtues of non-violence, to be respectful towards others and respect each other’s opinions, a sign of humility and non-violence.   The treatment of ego is a also a humongous task because the hindering elements in the treatment will be the insistence showcased by an egoistic person. The person is insistent on being right that they will fail to even consider the perspective of the other person and thereby become a hinderance in the treatment themselves. A multisided view of a perspective is what an egoistic person lags the most.

The first precaution which one must practice in their treatment of ego is to be aware of the fact that everything is temporal. Whatever might be the reason behind someone’s pride or ego, it is very necessary for them to understand that in the World everything has an ending and so will their reason of pride meet an end one day, then what use shall be left of the ego? The second precaution is to understand that everything is transient. Things change and change is the sole truth of this World. Then why do humans take such a great pride in things which are temporal and transient? Perhaps a question which we all must answer some day.

Deceit – Maya

Deceit is the by product of pride and greed. A pride grows so does deceit and as greed grows so does deceit. Deceit is such an emotion that unlike others, it neither has any aggravation nor inertia, but it is hidden amongst other emotions like a thorn. It stays inside and does not even want to come outside like a wound which spreads and works inside. It is the entire of opposite of straightforwardness. It has been said the one who is simple and honest is pure and one who is pure can become an abode for religion. It is true that deceit does work in situations where the security of the nation and economic security, but it is in the areas of mutual relationships and religion where deceitful behavior should never be practiced. If two brothers work together and one becomes manipulative, mutual distrust will grow and when people start hiding things and deceive on another, a disaster is on its way to put an end to the sweetness of the relationship, mutual trust, love and friendship.

Deceit has no place in exploration of truth. One who has set out his path in exploration of truth, there can be no concealment of any kind and for this he must also rise above the requirements of practicality and manipulation. It is the transparency which one achieves that leads them to become immortal for he does not care about appreciation or denunciation nor concealing anything.

Greed – Lobh

Anger destroys love, Ego destroys humility,
Deceit destroys friendship and Greed destroys everything
When greed arrives, it is almost certain that there is no chance for virtues to survive. When a man has affinity towards material things and is ambitious of acquiring. When a man has affinity towards material things and is ambitious of acquiring the most, greed is born. Very soon, ambition takes the form of greed, and with greed, the pathway of anger becomes clear. If we investigate, it will become clear that the biggest reason of anger is greed. It is when there is feeling of mine, there is worry, grief, sorrow, fear, and insecurity will set in. When we humans start associating our selves with our belongings, possessions and riches it is then that greed starts germinating within us.

This tendencies of man towards desire and ambition damages the management of society. However, the solution to this problem is understanding that Satisfaction is ultimate happiness. We should realize our boundaries. The boundaries of our duty, of our pursuits, and of our situations. We must understand these boundaries and learn to live inside them. One, who realizes his limits, is really the happiest man. One, whose dissatisfaction continues to increase, will ultimately die under the pressure and constant fear of achieving the unachievable. This way of satisfaction is the practice of contentment. This absence of desires and ambition is contentment. The starting point of satisfaction is the end of desires. It is through practice, one can win over desires. Whenever there is a wave of desire, pacify it but do not answer it. If we react to the wave of desire, we will end up answering it. If we ignore it, will not get any response from us and gradually it starts subsiding. This rejection is lack of desire and this should be our effort.

His writings bring about an all-round development in one’s life and thus are rendering a great service to the humanity. Mankind will forever be obliged to him for his contribution that he has made through his literature.

About the Book

In today’s world we humans live a very fast paced life and are goal oriented forgetting the fact that the ultimate goal of our life is to achieve happiness and salvation. Our mind is just like the sea. The waves are the emotions we face. Even if a stone is thrown, the water splashes. We at present are at the surface of the sea and to achieve ultimate happiness, we must try and become the deep ocean which is not disrupted by any stone but it absorbs it within itself. By becoming the deep sea. We all can achieve knowledge and the world will ultimately become a better place to reside.

This book is a guide to both happiness and salvation which we have completely ignored. This book makes us aware about the way we live life and the mistakes we do and how can we rectify the same. Happiness comes from our perception of this world whereas salvation comes from the deeds we have done throughout our life. People think about all these things at a later stage in their life i.e., when they have retired or are on their death bed. We as humans should not only focus on the external development meaning our physique, our clothes etc but we should also focus on our internal self-meaning our heart, our mind and also our organs.

The Author of this book has explained all these things through the various colour of Leshyas. The Colour of leshyas can define so much about people and their Aura. Humans today focus on the way they dress but not on the aura they carry. They are influenced by the outer appearance of the person but not by the knowledge a person possesses. Just as the name of the book suggests, this book has through a story explained various leshyas and how one can progress into a better leshya and achieve our ultimate goal as humans which is happiness and salvation.

Happiness here does not mean materialistic happiness but instead it means happiness from within which is a sense of satisfaction with whatever we have and not being greedy or jealous about what we don’t possess.

The Following are the types of leshyas and how do we identify them:

A] Krishna Leshya:

  1. Intense aggressiveness
  2. Perpetual anger
  3. Jealousy
  4. Apathy for religion
  5. Cruelty
  6. Enmity
  7. Temperaments
B] Neel Leshya:
  1. Laziness
  2. Feeble mind
  3. Desire for lust
  4. Deceit
  5. Cowardice
  6. Ego
C] Kapoot Leshya:
  1. Mournful
  2. Resentment
  3. Self-praise
  4. Depreciating others
  5. Heinousness
  6. Miserliness
D] Tejas Leshya:
  1. Knowledgeable
  2. Compassionate
  3. Conduct
E] Padma Leshya:
  1. Forgiveness
  2. Tolerance
F] Shukla Leshya:
  1. Pacification of attachment and aversion
  2. Freedom from grief and condemnation
  3. Supreme state

Excerpts to Remember from this book:

  1. Earth is a Treasure with jewels hidden at every step. If a congenitally blind person is asked to observe the grandeur of the sun, can one do so? No one cannot. Similarly, everything that is present around us may not be easily visible to us.
  2. With the power of pure thoughts and emotions one can achieve success in just one year which would have taken 20 years.
  3. Pessimistic perspective keeps giving rise to negative thoughts. In order to have a holistic approach it is essential to comprehend the principles of leshya.
  4. One enjoys the external life, but that is not the objective of life. It is not prudent to judge a person only on the basis of their external life, completely oblivious of their inner traits.
  5. Leshya of a person keeps on changing similar to Swar(breath) of a person.
  6. Once cruelty is washed away, compassion will take place and one can become truly religious.
  7. One who is not compassionate can become a follower of religion, but can never be spiritual.
  8. A considerable amount of joy and sorrow is experienced just from the level of imagination.
  9. Meditation is the mid-point, on one side of which lies the world of waves and other side a world beyond waves.
  10. We can clear the fog of delusion through practice of contemplation.

About the Book

“The Mountains are calling me”- a standard dialogue one states when they are absolutely tired of their lives and need a beak from the boring, cumbersome routines. It shall be true to state that whenever most of us feel heavy from heart, we seek solace by taking a break from our daily lives and leave for a trip to an unknown or known place just to refresh ourselves. It shall be even more true to state that I myself indulge in the same practice and the time when I read this book, I was also in a phase where my mind was shrieking for a break from the routine and was seeking for solace in my favorite place to find peace, i.e. the mountains. However, the conditions became as such that my trip couldn’t take place and I had three days to myself alone with this book by side and alas, it was the most peaceful three days of my life. The reading of this entire book was nothing less than a three days trip to the mountains, and I believe that every reader who lays his hands on this book, will experience the same extent of relaxation and peace.

The book is actually based around the teachings of the book “Aaradhna” by Jacharya Ji, but in the simple and witty style of writing, characteristic to Acharya Mahapragya Ji. If I were to summarize the style of writing of this book, each chapter begins with either a short instance or question, followed by the observations and knowledge of Acharya Mahapragya Ji, which gives the reader an answer posed by the book but also makes the reader do a quick self-analysis after each chapter. Some of these interesting questions posed by the book are:

  • How is the knowing of Kayotsarga necessary for knowing the Soul
  • How long does it take to reach the spiritual shore?
  • Are you actually Neutral in life?
  • Why for vanishing of feeling of dislike, even the feeling of liking has to be relinquished?
  • How no one neither completely dependent nor completely independent?
  • Is there a direct approach to discipline the mind?
  • How atoms of anger are bitter and atoms of compassion are sweet?
  • Should the illness be suppressed or eradicated from the root?
  • The choice between Emperor of external world and Emperor of the inner world.
  • Is the World actually crippling or does the difference lies in the eyes of the observer?
  • How the key to greatness is the perception of death
  • How to revitalize the body by revitalizing the mind?
  • The Golden Aphorisms of Progress
  • How Aardhana is about self-analysis?

The Beginning

For one to begin on the path of finding peace and solace, a path is needed. The book too begins by first presenting the reader with a path of practice for seeking peace, i.e. kayotsarga. Kayotsarga is a practice in which one stands in a with his feet a little apart and heels close to each other in joined manner and the neck and back straight, with eyes half closed. This is the kayotsarga posture. Kayotsarga comprises further of three basic elements to practice:

Elements of Kayotsarga

The first element of tolerance means to experience the things the way they are. To let the things happen the way they are happening without worrying. Then comes in the second element of fearlessness. One might think that fearlessness means the freedom from fear of others. But actual fearlessness is the freedom from the fear born out of attachment to one’s own self. The attachment to one’s body, causes the apprehension of fear like fear of growing old, fear of getting weak, fear of death and the freedom from the attachment will result in actual fearlessness. The third and last element is relaxation, which is nothing but freedom of the body from fickleness, i.e. learning of making the voluntary nerves stable. It is with the beginning of kayotsarga practice that one can start assessing the true value of the body and experience self- realization, followed by development of equanimity.

The Practice

For one to be continuous and adamant on the path of self-realization, one has to actually answer innumerable questions which take birth from within and can also be resolved from within. These questions, sometimes even put one’s efforts, one’s entire practice and one’s patience into serious questionings for the person starts doubting if they have reached a notable milestone or not were their efforts futile. At this stage, the book every clearly explains that one needs to understand that the pit of self- realization, need not be many in number. It has been observed that one starts a practice, continues it for few months then stops it because the person thinks that no favorable result could be drawn which is a wrong procedure to follow. The truth is that one must dig one single but deep pit. This simply means that one must be tolerant and faithful in their practice and continue it, for with every single effort the pit keeps getting deeper and deeper.

It is during the practice of self- realization that one must even question their neutrality, i.e. whether their senses are neutral enough to assess a certain situation as neither good nor bad. When this neutrality is achieved for the material world, then only neutrality can be achieved for the soul. The process of neutrality automatically results in achievement of equanimity. Another practice described is the practice of detachment. However, how many of us have realized that detachment is possible only when attachment exists. When one leaves certain object, feeling of person, the mind has to find an attachment for a void has been created and in the process of spirituality, detachment is followed by attachment to the Eternal Soul, also known as the Eternal Truth. When one attaches themselves to the Eternal Soul and blindly devotes themselves to it, is then that true bliss is felt.

The book also causes a distinction between the poverty of the exterior and the poverty of the within. It has been said that when one is spiritually disconnected and have lost the path to the soul and have found solace in the material world, it is such a person who is suffering poverty from within. Even a billionaire, who is Emperor of the Materialistic World can be suffering from poverty from within and it is a bitter truth that no amount of external riches and suffice the poverty of the within. It can be sufficed only with self- introspection and by connecting to the soul.

The Solution

A very unique theory of water and fire has been described in the book which actually helps one understand that our every problem has a solution within our own selves. Similarly, even success and happiness come from within. The theory begins with the story of a kingdom engulfed in a huge fire and the King being distressed because no amount of water was able to stop the fire. The fire had taken its worst form and it seemed as if the entire kingdom would reduce to ashes. The King then went to one of his ministers for seeking help to this problem, the minister said that the fire can simply be put out if a few drops from the bath water of the Queen, Shiva Devi is used to put out the fire. The King did the same and the fire went out only with a few drops from the bath water of Queen Shiva Devi.

Similar to this, all the wild fires raging within us or around us can be put to an end because everyone has Shiva Devi within ourselves. Success does not come from outside. It is inside us. We must just unravel it. It manifests itself with little effort. Here comes in the practice of Bhavana, i.e. brain washing. It consists of repeating the same thought over and over again, until a time comes when old thoughts and believes fade away, making room for what is being repeated to establish itself. It is the practice of manifestation, through which self- transformation can be achieved.

Further, one must also have a realization of death. One chapter in the book discusses this in detail that for success one needs to be in realization of death because it is the realization of death which alone can cause the ego of the human to vanish. The way a human’s pride in their body is lost in sickness, pride in youth is lost in old age, similarly a person who is fighting death, losses ego. People who cannot envision death cannot realize their own weaknesses and flaws resulting in arrogance. In a way, it is the realization of death that a person also self- introspects their own flaws and weaknesses, which becomes absolutely necessary to avoid the evils of ego and thereby be successful.

Soul of Jainism

Are you aware that Jainism had earlier different names such as Arhat Dharma, Nirgrantha Dharma and Jain as term became popular lately and was not there earlier?. Keval Gyani Rishab was Arhat Dharma and Keval Gyani Mahavir was Nirgrantha Dharma and both now is termed as Jain.

I am thrilled to write the review of this Book for many reasons but the best reason is that this Book actually gave me the answers or shall I say the way to think forward to one the biggest query any human who has small intellect about “Who is God?” and “Who is the creator” and “If there is a Creator then who creator Creator?” as this three queries have been on my mind since many years and infact I tried getting answers through someone and then google but nothing came the reply which can bring satisfaction to your mindset. This Book named as Soul of Jainism which in my view is not the proper name as it should have been “Know the Soul and Life” as for the fact that this Book has nothing to do with the Jainism or any other religion. The Book is just appropriate for Beginners who are intending to know what Indian Literature thought of Soul and God and Creator and may be this Book will give the reader the way to process further which shall be as it is then be taken as intellectual process mind.

Covering all huge ancient scholars by Great Rishi and Saints in one book and proving certain point which can be taken as discussion oriented in a book of hardly 170 pages is not a common man achievement as this can be done only by someone who has pure knowledge of Indian Philosophy, Indian Literature, way of thoughts of various religions, and intent and to have such knowledge at this age for me it is only now can be counted and, in that Acharya Mahapragya, fits the category to the best. My words be not taken as exaggeration only because I am Jain and praising a Jain Monk but for the reasons of having read more than 40 books before giving this review and what I said can be trusted in good way.

Question is why this Book is named as Soul of Jainism whereas the Book not at all speaks of Jainism as Religion. The answer to this I can give post reading the Book is that the aim was to share the viewpoint of Jainism Philosophy to many queries regarding following:

  1. What is Soul?
  2. What is Matter?
  3. Who is God?
  4. Whether there is any God?
  5. Whether Soul is God?
  6. Whether there is any relation between Soul and God?
  7. Whether there is one Soul for all life being or each life has its Soul?
  8. How creator became creator and who is Creator creator?
  9. What is Consciousness and how it works?
  10. Is the Consciousness and Soul inter-dependent or independent or nothing related to it?
  11. Is there is possibility of Rebirth?
  12. Rebirth is Science or Myth?
  13. Soul and Rebirth, how are related
  14. Why there are different kinds of living beings, such as animals, humans, visible and invisible?
  15. How life came on earth?
  16. Thought process of life?

The best part of the Book that it does not force the Jainism Philosophy in any manner and infact the various philosophies has been discussed in great details and with minute facts and its logical reasoning and hence I still believe that this Book shall have been Titled as “Know the Soul and Life” as by naming as Soul of Jainism, the Book has restricted its usage to Jains as in today generation the Jain is taken as Religion and this book will be taken as Religious Book which will be not in favour of the fact that the thoughts of Acharya Mahapragya being restricted.

While reading this Book, I have to admit that if the reader is not aware of Sanskrit and Prakrit, he or she cannot understand the ancient Indian Literature and hence the time is still there to make these two languages mandatory so that the thought process of ancient Indian Literature is not lost as already many ancient books and ideas have been either lost or looted out or burnt due to long history of capturing India and its history.

This Book covers in great deep and covers following essential and utmost relevant subject which is quite interesting and great experiencing to know:

How this Book is useful for Business/Work life point of view?

Well, there is no doubt that this Book is more of Spiritual Science but the best part of this Book the manner in which the discussion have been done and it shows how the matter or situation or facts be handled and come out with logical reasoning. It further teaches how the way we think most of the time that We are true and correct but many times it fails and the reasons you can find in this Book. For example, the moment you read, i) What is Creation?, ii) Who created this World?, iii) What is this World made of?, iv) When did it come into Existence? And v) How was the World Formed?, you will be amazed as how the issues are being handled and thereafter outcome are being taken. This mindset comes only when your mind is mature to understand and for any Business to grow, mature thinking and mindset is the key.

A man encounters n number of people in a day and depending on how he feels about the person, or at the time, or about the situation or from within, acts in a certain way. This behaviour of the man is based on certain principles, which not only govern his outer behaviour but also influences his inner thinking, perception and understanding of the material and immaterial world. It is through the pages of this book, that Acharya Mahapragya Ji, helps the reader understand the 18 basic practices which when inculcated within ourselves, will help us reflect upon a true picture of our inner selves through methods like dutifulness, self-reliance, truthfulness, patience, honesty, straight-forwardness, tolerance, gentleness, fearlessness, self-discipline, create a deeper understanding about why and how someone reacts in a certain way to our actions, give an insight into the norms of society and how our individual effort can create a difference at the macro level, and at last in my personal view, leave the reader with a sense of light heartedness, for we (the reader) would have figured out numerous answers while ongoing our journey of the reading the book. The book answers some very inquisitive questions like:
  • How Awareness of Duty in the Youth can lead to Nation Building?
  • How Self- exertion is sign of living a moral life?
  • What is Truth and truth? Know the meaning of statable truth.
  • How to realize the identity of all things around you?
  • How sadhna and sect are related?
  • How unity is determined by both similarity and dissimilarity in human race?
  • The Functioning of Brain Waves and the co-relation between R.N.A. and sadhana.
  • How to train the mind to perceive things beyond the range of a gross mind?
  • Why the Secret of Sadhna is Patience?
  • Straightforwardness- The Way to Purification
  • Anekanta and the acceptance of co-existence of the opposites.
  • How to practice the Yoga of Non-Attchment?
  • What are the techniques to develop Tolerance?

The book is based on the principle of Anupreksha, and through the principle of Anupreksha the book then embarks the reader upon a journey of offering a deep insight into some very intrinsic behaviours of human mind like the need of attention, the cause of fear, the lack of dutifulness, the multi-dimensions of the truth, the sense of “me and mine” causing end of unity, the basics of science and spirituality being co-existent and proportional to each other, the concept of penance for purification and many other realities which read through  the pages of this book, create a much concrete understanding of the reader about their own self and rather at every page of the book, the reader gets an opportunity to introspect, self-analyse and also for self-correction.

Anupreksha

Anupreksha, is a part of the preksha mediation. Preksha means dhyan, i.e. perceiving and seeing, which is followed by Anupreksha, i.e. thinking and contemplation on a subject, free from the infatuations of the mind. “Anu” means “afterwards”. Whatever one experience during mediation, is contemplated and meditated about later, is Anupreksha. The practise of Anupreksha in a sense is also about self suggestion-ism. It is the technique of suggesting our minds about a certain subjects in such a way that our mind believes it to be true and commands the body to act accordingly. It has actually been seen that the practise of Anupreksha has caused people to leave their habits like smoking, drinking and has even healed people from some deadly diseases.

On the other, practise of Anupreksha is also very necessary for one to avoid the unreal. It is also about living in the Truth devoid of assumptions, false scenarios and untruth. I believe that in todays world, the power of the modern minds that increased so much that the minds are capable to imagining, perceiving and contemplating the future until that extent where the thinker fears his own existence and therefore acts in a way which is harmful for himself, let alone for the people around him and it is the much-needed practise of Anupreksha, which can come to the rescue of these modern minds. But the most crucial part about adopting the practise of Anupreksha, is to not look at truth with one’s pre-conceptions, prejudices and illusory views. One has to observe the truth, the reality just as the way it is and only that Anspreksha means the contemplation of what is true, of what is real, of the actuality of the moment. Anupreksha thus implies that we say good-bye to our pet notions, our and see only the real, the factual. It is this kind of Anupreksha pre-conceptions which is practised in the technique of Preksha Meditation that we learn to observe the truth without any conceptions obsolete conventions and pre-conditionings.

The 18 Commandments of being the True-Self

The book begins with an introduction of Anupreksha, followed by an in depth-analysis of the 12 Anupreksha’s for self-introspection as listed below:
  • Anupreksha of Dutifulness
  • Anupreksha of Self-Reliance
  • Anupreksha of Truth
  • Anupreksha of Synthesis
  • Anupreksha of Secularism
  • Anupreksha of the Unity of Mankind
  • Anupreksha of Spirituality and Science
  • Anupreksha of Mental Equilibrium
  • Anupreksha of Patience
  • Anupreksha of Honesty
  • Anupreksha of Straight Forwardness
  • Anupreksha of Co-existence
  • Anupreksha of Non-attachment
  • Anupreksha of Tolerance
  • Anupreksha of Gentleness
  • Anupreksha of Fearlessness
  • Anupreksha of Self-discipline
  • Anupreksha: Practice and Technique

All these 18 commandments, have been written in form of separate chapters, with each chapter being analysed from the perspective of an individual soul, to its effect on a community altogether. Some important points to reflect upon in this book are:

  • The concept of dutifulness states that “Duty for the sake of Duty” is a must. It simply means that duty should be for the sake of duty and never out of pity or compassion. It is when duty is born from free will, it has its independent value and carries a constructive value.
  • If one is seeking truth, he won’t be able to find it through any institution. He will have to explore the very depths of his soul to achieve the same.
  • Fear is born out of doubt. If the sadhak is doubtful about his sadhna then such a situation would fill him with fear and despair.
  • The eternal Truth can never be spoken and expressed, it can only be experimented and realized on your own. Therefore Lord Mahavira had said “Seek the truth for yourself”.
  • Religion is nothing but the inner purity of the soul. Therefore it is not a matter of belonging to any particular race, class or sect.
  • It has been seen that human mind can be influenced through sadhna and through scientific experiments too. Where at one place sadhna needs time and practise, scientific experiments give results faster. However, sadhna works on the root cause whereas the results of the scientific experiments are on temporal basis.
  • Both action and thought go together. When the mind is divorced from the action, it leads to unintelligibility and therefore mediation is needed train the mind.
  • It is the impatience of the man which acts a hindrance in his path of One should increase one’s practice of patience otherwise the equilibrium of the body is disturbed.
  • Honesty is nothing but harmony of thought, speech, and action and contradiction between them is dishonesty.
  • A Sanskrit poet has said “The needle is straight and therefore sews things together, creates one fabric out of two pieces. The scissor is crooked; it splits; cuts one piece into two”. Similarly straightforwardness binds the mind together, the scissors of attachment and illusion severs them.
  • Fire can be said to be cold and ice can be said to be hot. We cannot view everything only from one point of view. Lord Mahavira said that we cannot propound reality without relativity. Where we expound truth relatively, it naturally leads to co-existence.
  • The true meaning of being detached is to undergo self-realization. The way to self-realization is through neutralization of unnatural distortion in every action. He who experiences his true nature as the knower and the seer becomes self-realized.

The man who has control over his emotions, can go very far. The man who cannot fully control his emotions, but has limited capacity and controls his passions to some extent, is able to maintain the status quo. But the man who is a slave to his passions, forces himself into a miserable plight, soon degenerates. Let us realise this truth that without exercising control over emotions, we cannot make any progress in life.

Who shall read this book?

This book is for those inquisitive minds which would want to indulge in concepts like:
  • The practise of Anupreksha
  • Awareness of duty in the Youth and its impact on the Nation
  • Man and Self-exertion. The need of being dependent on one’s own self
  • What is Truth and truth? The difference between the statable and the unstatable
  • Recognition of different possibilities: The Secret of Success
  • The Science of Living: Modern Day path to the discovery of the Laws of Life
  • The co-relation between R.N.A. and sadhna
  • The training of the mind towards mental equilibrium
  • The secret of meditation: Patience
  • Straightforwardness, a symbol of the purified one
  • Existence and co-existence, way to peaceful living
  • Non-Attachment and the Art of Perceiving
  • The consummation of Fearlessness: Veetaraagata (A State of Enlightenment)

My Spiritual Journey

(An Autobiography of Acharya Mahapragya)

If you can understand the deep meaning of “I was the Speaker and I was the Listener”, then you are on the right path and reading this Book will take you to another level.

This Book in my view be not taken or read as Autobiography but a Book of “Movement”, “Journey to Success”, “Knowing what to do”, “Understanding the Life”, “Who are we without Guru”, “Understanding the Real Thoughts Vs Many Thoughts”, “You Yourself is the key to Your Life”, “Know how to Act as Good Opponent”, “Face Harsh Reality“, “How to be a Good Leader”, “How to be a Good Disciple”, “Struggles Win Goals”, “Guru Comes First”, and many other which if someone wants can even write several books out of this one Autobiography.

If the reader reads from the starting page till the end page without breaking the chain of pages, you will be amazed that how this Book teaching the readers from all perspective such as:

  • How to be a family person
  • How to be a good administrator
  • How to react and act on all situations?
  • How to be alert to be on top of your requirement?
  • How to be aware of what is going on?
  • How to respect Opponent?
  • Why today non-violence is not the real non-violence but a part of violence?
  • How as a Businessperson, be a success story for other business entities?
  • How the Mission and Vision be made for a Business and what are the features to be taken care while making the Mission and Vision?
  • How to understand the situation?
  • What are the thoughts to be the part when dealing with the Situation?
  • Success, Education is not handled properly is the step towards EGO
  • Understanding the relevance of Me and We and Else in your Life and Business
  • Why the term “Ji” for every person when named makes a part of respect culture?
  • Understand the terminology “Fair Means Towards Fair ends”?

This Book I purposely not read as my first book but only after reading more than 25 Books of Acharya Mahapragya. It is relevant for me to state that first 7 books took Two readings per book to understand what exactly the Author meant by and what message is to be conveyed and when I understood the writings and intention of Author, the reading of other books and now in process books have been in smooth sail. The standard of writing of Acharya Mahapragya is of highest quality and shall be taken as one of the top writer in world in the field of Spiritual Science and Philosophy and no doubt in other fields too. Well coming to the reason of not reading this Book as my first book was to avoid all expectation as if so, then may be me reading such number of books have been down and this I am saying because this Book can be taken as Acharya Mahapragya Book “What I want to” as post reading this Book which came at ease for me to read for reasons of me reading several books prior to this Book and now when I read this Book, I am in complete satisfaction of how Muni Nathmalji became Brilliant Prolific Writer, Speaker, Thinker Acharya Mahapragya. Even Acharya Mahapragya was aware of his brilliancy but such was his greatness (and no doubt greatness came from Ganadhipati Tulsi, the Saint who was and is unmatched with many of qualities and Acharya Mahapragya was lucky to get one of his quality, which is writing and deep education. I am of personal view after reading this book and other books that if Ganadhipati Tulsi would have got time, the World would have seen as the Top Notch Writer for his thoughts, his thinking far beyond, his thinking for oneness and all and such other features which no doubt is there and hence is called as Ganadhipati). This Book actually teaches out of many think, one is beyond all and infact even Bhagavad Gita speaks in the same manner. In brief Lord Krishna said “Accept me as Guru and just keep faith and trust and devote all to me”. In the same manner, this Book will prove how it was Ganadhipati Tulsi who made Muni Nathmal as Acharya Mahapragya and for me the moment I use Acharya for Author I am not denoting towards the Post but how he deserve to be there is more important. The moment when I completed this Book, I have to admit that I had a tear in the eye thinking of what not Author’s faith had but how the disciple shall be towards his Guru and how a Guru shall be for Disciple but thinking of future was another part of my small teary eyes. The statement of Dr. Roth of 100 years to convert Agamas made me worried as what was started by Two great personalities (nothing to take away from all Sadhus, Sadhvis and great person who were and are part of Agamas) and this being a huge work but anyhow thoughts do come of whether the dream started by Ganadhipati Tulsi, implemented by Acharya Mahapragya and thereafter in continuous execution by Acharya Mahashraman will be taken care off in future as going by the time, it will take another 30 years and or if not then atleast 20 years and then another time for getting closed.

This Book is no doubt an Autobiography of Acharya Mahapragya but I never read from that part as majority of the pages were denoted to Ganadhipati Tulsi and there is a reason for the same as it was the relation of Guru and disciple which made a small boy from the village where there was not even regular water a Acharya and more than that a person on whom the Ganadhipati Tulsi ever relied upon. The relation of Lord Krishna and Arjun taught us many things and this no doubt came to me first from the TV Serial Mahabharat which was aired in around Year 1990 on Doordarshan and recently due to COVID 19 which was seen by millions.

This Book being an Autobiography no doubt contains about “Me”, “Mine”, “How @readwith me/mine” but the best part of this Autobiography is the manner in which the Me and Mine was only due to Faith and Trust. Post reading several Books of Acharya Mahapragya let me say confidently, Faith and Trust is the two words for world but for me one word is the Magical Words works in anyone life irrespective of what he wants to. “Faith and Trust” and “Guru” is the most important aspect of anyone life. This is similar to Business aspects too. Start-ups the term has gained a huge momentum and with this the business of Speaker and Mentors have also groomed up in huge numbers but getting the good Mentor, you can say is Luck but sometimes it is your effort which brings luck. A Disciplined Guru makes the Disciple Life Worth.

The essence feature of this Book though being an Autobiography is that the Bhavana is not restricted to per se but is more of an education to the readers of how a life shall be.

If the reader reads from the starting page till the end page without breaking the chain of pages, you will be amazed that how this Book teaching the readers from all perspective such as:

Today requirement of Rules by Disciple/Student/Child/Employees towards Parents, Guru and Business Organisation:

  • I would do nothing that would upset my Teacher/Guru
  • I would do nothing that would make my Teacher/Guru feel that the effort he put in to make me, did not give the results he wanted
  • I will not wish ill for anybody. This is a definite realisation that the one who wishes ill for another may or may not be able to harm the other, but will definitely harm himself

Who is Guru?

Guru is never separate. If he is a Guru and he is separate, it means he is not a Guru. A guru is always a Guru. It is not possible that he is a guru and yet there is a difference of opinion with him. Both these cannot co-exist. You accept someone as your Guru and yet continue to do whatever you want, then there would be no more unfortunate paradox in life. Guru is inseparable; he is not separate from your Soul.

Measurement of Talks in Success Growth:

Bateri ki bigade, that is the one who is talkative, who takes an interest in only talking and neglects his study, get spoilt. [Acharya Kalguniji]

Ganadhipati TulsiIf you talk so much now, all your life you will have to live under someone else’s supervision. If you study now, on growing up you will become independent. Then you may talk as much as you want, no one will stop you

It is relevant to note that Legitimate or reasonable talk appeals to the mind. Where anger or only reprimand creates reaction, reasonable talk touches the heart and mind.

Learn why Life is Built on Discipline and not EGO and how EGO be eliminated?

The first step in any task is to imagine the job ahead. The second is resolution, firm determination. The one who is not acquainted with the power of resolution cannot reach the doorstep of success. So it is necessary to strengthen one’s resolve. Discipline, forbearance and restraint are the three important components of resolution

Acharya Mahapragya has stated after one incident when he was reprimanded and punished by Shivraji Swami and the then Acharyashri, Acharya Mahapragya believed of doing no wrong and due to this, Acharya Mahapragya went to meet Mantrimuni Maganlalji Swami and stated what was the wrong done by me. Mantrimuni Maganlalji Swami to this query of Acharya Mahapragya stated “You should never be arrogant about your knowledge or the blessings of your guru. We are sadhus. Why should we be arrogant? To ask is something small. We spread our hands before someone else for our food, then why do we have an ego? Innumerable number of times the soul being born as the seed of a berry has got crushed under someone’s feet. Why then do we have an ego?”. These small teachings touched Acharya Mahapragya deep down and this two words of Mantrimuni Maganlalji Swami helped Acharya Mahapragya overcome his ego. Please note that the Arrogance shall never conquer the humility.

This is truly valid in today life and following above principles will make you as Yourself a very clam person and ego free attitude and no doubt the Success comes where the postiveness has its shelter.

Special attention of Book Avid Readers, Writers, Content Writers and Researcher:

This Book if read carefully gives the way, method and mannerism for those people who are Book Avid Readers, Writers, Content Writers and Researcher and have great intent in Literature as to how to upgrade your skills in Literature. The story of Acharya Mahapragya is not at all only being a Sadhu but a person who as a boy never knew anything but with an intent and great support from Sangha (Jain Sangh) and Guru, the same boy today has been called as Swami Vivekananda of Modern Era. To achieve this feat is not a small mean and if this be referred by the Prime Minister Narendra D Modi (popularly called as PM Modi) is even not a small feat. From Literature point of view the journey of Acharya Mahapragya only shows the hard work and efforts done by Acharya Mahapragya. A person who learnt many languages from none is a huge feat and the rich Literature of the Acharya Mahapragya, one can calculate from the below incident:

Pandit Sukhlalji and his disciple did not harbour much respect towards our work (Work here is the publishing of Dasvaikalik Sutra). Many a time their disrespect also was evident. Pandit Sukhlalji had even commented once, “What will a Terapanth sadhu do with the Agamas?. However, post publishing of Work, same Pandit Sukhlalji met and said “Now I am convinced that only you people can do the editing and collation of Jain Agamas and Jain Philosophy

Panditji said “Muni Nathmalji, I have seen the Dasvaikalik and Uttaradjyayana as edited by you. The manner in which the work has been carried out is indeed the need of the day”

How to Respect Opponent/Competitor?

Parmanandabhai Kapadia was a prolific thinker and editor of Gujarati Publication, Prabuddh Jeevan was a great opponent of Terapanth views on Ahimsa and after reading the article written by Acharya Mahapragya, he said:

“I am not in agreement with the views presented by Muni Nathmalji, and I cannot but thank him for the gentle manner in which he has presented his views. In my analysis, one may find a little sarcasm or insinuations, but in Muni Nathmal’s article there is no sarcasm, no anger or harshness, no imbalance. The language and the manner in which the article has been written does much to illustrate the sweetness, restraint, dignity and learnedness of the sadhu. I experienced great joy while reading his essay. If difference of opinion could be presented in this manner then there would be no bitterness. And the difference of opinion would not lead to differences in mind. The Society would progress in a positive direction”

This above incident shows and teaches many things:
  • When to react?
  • How to react”
  • Manner of reaction
  • How to deal with opponents?
  • Opponent is our brother only but how to win over them
  • How to present your side of thoughts

Once article by Acharya Mahapragya is teaching us many thing just imaging if one reads his whole life, what that person will be. An Imagination itself will make him to change himself that is the aura of Acharya Mahapragya

Sanskrit and Prakrit, Languages which needs re-birth:

This is the Book which has openly stated very clearly about the importance of two languages which are dying and soon will become extinct purely due to the fault of ours and to be very specific India. According to the Acharya Mahapragya, “the one who ignores these languages (Sanskrit and Prakrit) will never be able to establish the contact with the Soul of ancient India. The culture of ancient India could be duly appreciated without the knowledge of these two languages

Maxims for Successful Growth in Business, Work Life and Personal Life

Maxims Meaning
The Perspective of Anekant The one who understands Anekanta and looks at the world through this perspective solves most of life’s problems automatically
A Life of Discipline The one who lives with discipline goes far in life. He gains momentum on the path to self-discipline
Humility and Self-Discipline Self-inspired humility and discipline. When administration is not required and the control is in one’s hands, it means that such a person holds the key to his fate in his own hands.
The Blessing of Guru That which has happened in the past….it is not true to think it has fully gone past. I have not been born just to sing the songs of the past [Acharya Siddhasena Diwakar]
An Example of Stoicism Success and greatness are necessary for every person. Our direction and movement should not be towards smallness or meanness. Every person should be alert and determine to achieve greatness and then move in that direction. It is not a question of desire but I think it is a good think to be great.
A Positive Perspective Avoid saying “It cannot be done”
A Life of Hardwork The stumbling block on the path to success is laziness, and lack of effort. Things can be done, but we do not do it.
Constant Alertness Be Alert and avoid carelessness and negligence.
Patience and Waiting Pluck the Fruit only when it is ripe
Behavioral Skill Pleasant Behaviour is a sutra to Success
Two Resolves
  1. Will not do anything that would cause unhappiness to Guru
  2. I will not think of ill of others
Sublimated Emotions A successful person keeps their emotions under control
Eloquent Logic and Strong Faith Faith and Logic are the two wheels in life’s chariot. Without Logic, there is no way to search for the truth but I also think Logic without faith can be dangerous.
  • Don’t use Logic in day-to-day life interactions
  • When it is a question of principles or philosophy, use Logic
  • When there is human interaction, let the door to logic be closed. There can be no logical discussions there, only faith and humility work
  • When it comes to discussion about truth, let your logic dominate
Purity, Usefulness, and Momentum Only that person can make his life a success whose life has purity, clarity, and usefulness
Nucleus Goal of my life I believe to live, to die and define life
The Development of Third Eye Awakening of your Consciousness is Development of Third Eye

Understanding of how Violence occurs

Violence is caused by emotions produced by endocrine glands affecting the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system and is related to what we eat. Based on the scientific knowledge logical system we can possibly use the energy of a brain in simple meditational practices to nurture nonviolence within and to commit ourselves to a nonviolent social life

A consider chemical imbalance to be the primary cause of violence. Serotonin and Neropinephin neurotransmitter maintain a balance between themselves when this balance gets upset then the person becomes violent.  One reasons for violence lies in the hormone testosterone. Those in whom it is more than normal have a tendency towards violence. Around the time of sunrise, the secretion of serotonin from the pineal gland increases. Melatonin is also secreted by the pineal gland. It controls our sexual desires. Environmental Pollution is also responsible for making a person more violent. Some toxic substance weakens the neuro-control system in the brain or destroys them which control the violent tendencies arising in the brain. In those places where the pollution of the elements like the lead and the manganese is high, there the human nature becomes anti-social and aggressive

This Book narrates the real life stories which if read from Management point of view is just a perfect suited for Business growth. The feature of this Book for an autobiography is very unique for the reasons that for an autobiography to bring out the lessons for others covering from all aspects is nothing less than the perfect book for Management studies

What is in this Book which made to read this Book Thrice?

  1. Understand the difference between the phrases = Dedication to Truth and Dedication to Restraint
  2. How very small things can build life, cannot be understood by those who believe in the big things.
  3. I realise that there is a distance somewhere between love and development. Affection alone is not a reason of development of personality, it is also necessary to allow for the experience of reality.
  4. Very simply I understood that the value of equanimity is far greater than the value of the thing that you desire
  5. In the soil of compassion the seeds of development will not grow if they are bereft of the elements of hard-work and discipline.

  9. Discipline is not the process of suffocating it is meant to awaken self-discipline

  11. In social life, behavioural skills are of utmost importance. If we do not have gentleness, humility, tolerance and the capacity to adjust, life would become just like the “fictitious flower in the sky”
  12. Trust builds trust. When the Guru reposes so much trust, then the disciple tries to be even more deserving of that trust.
  13. Acharya Bhikshu’s thoughts on Non-Violence were and are very significance “to achieve a pure end (result), the means must also be pure”
  14. Intellectual Exploration is dependent on one’s interests and capabilities. Availability of resource and stimulus cannot be understood by separating them
  15. A Guru’s happiness is indeed the student’s greatest reward
  16. The Sun rises and the Sunflower blooms. Even though the capacity to bloom rests in the sunflower the power of stimulus cannot be underrated
  17. In the Journey of Progress of a Human there are three stages
    • The Mind
    • The Intellect
    • The Prudence
      • The Mind’s job is to think,
      • The Intellect takes the decisions and
      • The discretion is to reflect on that what is to be abandoned and what is to be accepted
  18. The intellect is beyond the mind and wisdom is beyond the intellect
  19. Each and every person desires progress. Even a teen has this desire in the form of seed which flowers on getting the right ambience.

Be Alone Among The Crowd

I have been reading the Books of Acharya Mahapragya and various other books and this Book caught my attention from the cover of the same and the moment I saw the name of the Book along with Red among Black and that too from Acharya Mahapragya, I could not resist but to give a reading. The moment I saw Red colour among all Blacks, Leshya Logic came in mind and relevance of Red Colour relating to consciousness came into picture and this can be done only with the books written by Acharya Mahapragya for the reasons that out of many great legends, Acharya Mahapragya gave importance to small things as he always believed that small things if done property, success is just nearby. Keval Gyani Mahavira always gave importance to small points and talks and gave a purpose on relevance to small things and importance of small things. According to Acharya Mahapragya, all the great people who made them great was their habits of knowing and giving importance to small things such as Mahatma Gandhi.

The moment you try to Google “Be Alone Among the Crowd” or “alone in the Crowd”, you will be directed to the pages which will speak of negative aspect of “Loneliness” whereas this Book is actually the opposite of stating why Loneliness in the crowd is the sign of you being towards the path of success.

Before I read this Book, wanted to give a try to know the facial expression of someone who is a Non-Jain of whether he would be interested in reading the book and the moment he show the cover page, he said yes and after reading the index he said how come this book is named as “Be Alone Among the Crowd” as the name suggest of being a “Motivational Book” or “How To Achieve Success” Book category as there are mention of Mediation, Breathing, Speech, etc and he returned the Book saying that he will read later. When I insisted that to read the book, he asked the meaning of “Be Alone Among the Crowd” to which I mentioned that “You” when meet “You” will understand that value of “You” amongst others and once “You” understand “You” will know all “Your” strength and weakness and “You” will not be one among the Crowd but “You” will be the Crowd. However, he did understand but he avoided reading. Thereafter we met at CCD for some business talks and I just shared what the book contained to him and he said to say in very brief and when I shared how this book has covered the success path in the way of knowing yourself is a unique to the Authors around the world and when I completed the brief narration, he was surprised and was little embarrassed of returning the book and ask for the book so that he can read again and understand. It was after 9 days, he called me and met at my house and said, the best book I have read when it comes knowing the reasons for Success and Growth. He understood for the first time (as even he is a big reader of the books of variety authors) that why the book is named as “Be Alone Among the Crowd”. For him “Alone” meant after reading the Book “to understand yourself” and “Among the crowd” rather than competing “knowing yourself and to act as what is require” makes someone success.

This Book is a great combination of today problem the humans are facing specially younger generation as there are no education being provided in regard to Spiritual Science and hence most of the relevant facts are being not shared with the today generation. This Book clearly speaks on how Mental Strength is enough for someone to achieve the success and how inner consciousness leads to growth rather than external worldly affairs. The Book does not aim to make you more of spiritual if be read as from religion point of view but shares the most proven and practical aspects which is not being stated in other books directly. For example, you might be aware that colours play a good role in meetings, branding but no one tell why and how and this was Leshya is all about. This Book is the perfect example of mixture of Spiritual Science and personal enigma and power of Body.

In my personal view out of all the chapters and sub-chapter, the most hitting chapter and may be you will realise the path of success is at Chapter 7 of Part 2 (Walk Alone)

Certain Relevant points from Book which the Readers can understand why this Book is of utmost relevance to read as it has new concepts pertaining to your Growth and new terms:

  • We have to become conscious. The question is “What should we become conscious about”, “Towards ourselves or towards others” [Awareness]
  • Our Mind has become object-oriented – it goes towards the object or the action [Awareness]
  • Grammar has two main components – the subject and the object. The subject is independent and Object is dependent on the subject. But today, in our lives, subject has become secondary and the object has become independent. Humans have started focusing more on the object and the event [Reactive Consciousness]
  • The Sorrow is caused not by the event of the material but comes from the reaction of the individual [Reactive Consciousness]
  • The first type of mediation is observing the breath [Breath]
  • Breath is the important aspect of life important parameter that can be used to assess the personality of a person reading can help us determine the personality of a person [Breath]
  • Awareness also means living in the present moment. An average person takes lot of time in thinking about either past or future. He remains busy building castles in the air and forgets about the personal life the person who lives in the present can accurate energy and uses it [Awareness in character building]
  • Ayurveda speaks that “while eating you should be totally aware that you are eating” [Awareness in character building]
  • Character Building is focusing on every small thing or becoming detail-oriented. History shows that great people have given importance to small things. We have to pay attention to the small things in life are you aware that where is moving millions of neurones have to work just for the moment of a small finger [Awareness in character building]
  • Mantras of a successful life is a balancing activity working with resting [Awareness in character building]
  • In Indian culture internal discipline is as important as external discipline [Intrinsic discipline]
  • Practice off meditation is aimed at awakening self-discipline
  • The language of command and control stops the people are connected through their consciousness and only friendship ensues. An ant walking on the railway track can get down on its own wish while that run cannot get off the Track. Things that have consciousness have desires and wills. We have to make use of will power and increase the Awareness to the development of independent consciousness this will lead to a successful life [Awareness in character building]
  • The biggest reason for imbalance is stress. There are three types of stress:
    1. Physical;
    2. Mental and
    3. Psychological
  • The most dangerous amongst the three is Psychological Stress – by controlling pulses and emotions to a mentally balance state [Mental balance – Controlling Impulses]
  • Pulses go through two stages – its Inception and the action that follows [Mental Balance]
  • A King/Leader should have self-control and who cannot control his emotions may take wrong decisions and might not be able to manage the whole situation [Mental Balance]
  • Getting angry is one thing and acting out of that anger is another we feel angry but managed to keep it within us then it is harmful and has an adverse effect on our health but it will not affect our social relationships [Mental Balance]

  • A leader should have the ability to visualise the result of his action
  • There are four factors responsible for psychological imbalance [Internal state of Consciousness]:
    1. Stress
    2. Impulses
    3. Negative Attitude Towards Oneself and
    4. External Circumstances
  • A person who can Keep himself independent of external situation can take the right decision
  • There are two important phrases with the current and against the current. The practice of meditation is a practice of going against the current
  • Breathe is a bridge to focus our minds but then it is something that we are hardly aware of your conscious off. The technique of breathing is the right way is the key for building a new life I even believe that if a billion people of India drink in the right way a new generation of Indians can be created is not just flame exchange of gases. [Importance of Breathing]
  • The practice of deep breathing sounds like a small thing but things that seem small can also be very precious in life [Importance of Breathing]
  • The Key point is that we should focus on things that are truly important for us
  • The current era is an era of Mental Stress
  • There are three progressive stages in which our thoughts affects us – one is just the act of thinking, then constant thoughts become the basis of stress and then the constant stress affects our health ultimately lead to premature death [How to think]
  • The biggest reason of untimely death is Stress
  • People think before speaking then they give the actual speech and after the speech they mull over what all they could have spoken the have basically given three speeches, One to the crowd and Two to themselves. Acharya Mahapragya has made the Sutra to remain stress free it is called neeh shesham in Sanskrit which can be interpreted as “I have done what I set out to do nothing more is to be done”
  • There are three ways to control our thoughts
    1. Breathing can help us to control our thoughts
    2. The second way is to relax and rest the tongue. Press the tongue against the lower jaw and do not move it for a while. This will reduce the thoughts as the tongue, the vocal cords, the throat and then thinking all are connected
    3. One can also press the tongue against palate, the roof of the mouth. This too will calm the mind
  • Our thoughts, imagination and memories are always full but only up to certain limit. When they cross the limit, they created problems
  • We have to draw a fine line between what can be an elixir and what can be a poison for us
  • Watching for perceiving is a method to solve Self-Introspection
  • Observing around body is a necessary practice for healthy body and healthy mind
  • Introspection is also a process of character building:
    1. Assessment of reality
    2. Finding the right solution
    3. Knowledge of the solution
    4. Believe in the solution
  • Factor responsible for character building:
    1. Discovery of Truth and
    2. Accepting the Reality
  • If you are not able to judge ourselves then you can take help of others to find our strength and weaknesses

  • Will-power is about turning our thoughts and images determination [Willpower]
  • The first step to develop strong will power is to strengthen the ability to say no [Ability to refuse]
  • First non-possession and then non-violence [Anuvrat]
  • One of the important thing to increase willpower is consistency

  • Points for increasing the Will-Power
    1. Concentration of mind – focusing on imagination

The name of the Book is a very powerful name and the name itself gives an impression of how “oneself knowing” is the best way to transform yourself. Transformation in a life is not out of sudden but yes if understood it is easy to get transform. Life is complex in the same way as our Body muscles working are complex and even till date there is no science research to say that they have researched Body from all aspects. It is important one to understand that “You” “yourself” is the key to “Your Success” and depending on others for motivation is just a myth to a larger extent. This Book is hence a unique from that perspective.

The book is an ideal source of knowledge for someone who wishes to introspect and analyse:

  • How the soul acts, behaves, controls our emotions and actions?
  • How the inauspicious karma of the past life and the present deeds affects our actions?
  • How the soul and the body are two separate entities?
  • How our aura is created and what gives it, its characteristic colour?
  • How our soul interacts with the body?
  • How we can connect with the our soul through meditation?
  • How leshya (aura) can be a tool for awakening of power?

A man changes by every passing minute. A man in the morning might not be the same man at noon, similar to how the sun might be calm at dawn and scorching at noon. As the saying goes, it will true to say that a man is multi-minded and rather we all are Geminis. However, how many times have we tried to contemplate the reasons behind such multi-dimensional behaviour our personality? The book “Transform Your Self”, offers us an insight into the realm of the Soul, kashay, adhyavasay, chitta, mind and the physical body. The Author of the Book, Acharya Mahapragya Ji has explained to the readers, all the intrinsic details of the human mind and consciousness through the pages of this book.

The Soul

A diagram depicting the different elements constituent between the soul and the body.

The book contemplates that how the soul, being the purest in its pristine form, emits the most positive vibrations, which have to cross the region of kashay. Kashay is formed by the inauspicious karma formed by anger, ego, deceit and greed. So, the pure conscious energy has to pass through the impure kashay, thereby entering adhyavasy. It is the state of where consciousness and body can be understood separately. Once the vibrations cross adhyasay, the soul’s leshya is born. Leshya is also called the aura of the soul and based on the positivity of the vibrations, the colour of the leshya varies. Dark colour means negativity and bright colour means positivity. These vibrations are transmitted are then transmitted to the human body through the endocrine system first and the output is that the body works accordingly and this not only affects our outer behaviour of the body but even affects the internal process of the body like the secretion of the hormones.

Transformation from Within

The book very swiftly communicates the fact that the change we humans are seeking from within, can only be achieved if we begin the process from its very root. Like the way our ancient medicines used to work by finding the actual root cause of a disease and healing the body as a whole instead of just curing the affected organ. Similarly, we must understand that the transformation we seek will have to also begin from our soul.

The soul is the purest entity in this universe and it is completely separate from our body. It is this soul which give life to our physical body and it is by realising the difference between the two, that one can create an understanding of the subject. If we keep on trying and changing our mind hoping that it would result in a transformation of our behaviour, one might fail because the change shall be temporary. It is with a realisation of the soul and growth in the positivity if the leshya that a transformation can be achieve and one step towards this is through Bhavana.

Bhavana

Lord Mahavira said

the one who purifies his consciousness through bhavana is like a boat in water

Bhavana can be defined as positive thinking, a force of long life. When negative energies conquer one’s thoughts, it is bhavana which cuts through this negativity and endows an active force. In the book a very relevant extract has been quoted which says that,

“I know certain people who predict in advance that he will have a sick headache on a certain day, in certain circumstances, and on that day, in the given circumstances, sure enough they will feel it. They brought their illness on themselves, just as others cure their by conscious autosuggestion. But if our unconscious is the source of many of our ills, it can also bring about the cure of our physical and mental ailments. It can only repair the ill has done, but cure real illness, so strong is its action upon our organism”

This extract, is very relevant to the present scenario as it reflects the exact situation of our present World. We tend to create negative scenarios in our minds, by overthinking, over-contemplating and even ending up creating fake scenarios. These thoughts result in a huge embargo of negativity in the soul which can only be combatted by positivity or Bhavana. Positive thinking or autosuggestion is useful in treating moral complaints and physical ailments. It is quite interesting too, if one would observe that how constructive thoughts and destructive thoughts all emerge from the very same source, all dependent on how the creator of these thoughts wishes to reflect upon the situation.

Meditation

The Psychic Centres in the Body
Meditation is another way of reaching our soul and beginning the process of transformation. One needs to meditate for it carries with it various other effects like:
  • To reveal the truth to realize the pure consciousness and to know the knower
  • To stay aware and conscious and to unwind the materialistic bonding
  • To awaken the inner vision
  • To awaken the psychic centres
  • To transform the leshya and to strengthen and purify the aura
  • To make the conscious mind pure, aware, strong, and inward
  • To be free of misery
A meditator remains internally aware while engaging with the external world, for his action comes out of non-action. He is not attached to the material world. He is not driven by his senses and desires. He remains balances.

The purpose of this book, actually helps each and every individual, for it helps one to understand introspection. The art of understanding one’s own self is pretty crucial as in the times of crisis when one feel like being lost, it is through introspection that one can find their recourse back. To get a deeper understanding of the subject, understanding the dynamics of human soul is even more crucial. Hence, the book first offers an insight into the composition of the soul, mind and body and then takes the reader on a journey of introspection, through bhavana, meditation and leshya gyaan.
